"Now Hiring" - Pedantic Terminology Question

I am very interested in an industry known as "eSports" (the concept of playing video games competitively). Anyways, one of the trends with many of the companies involved (teams, news websites, etc) is to promote the fact that they are "hiring" or advertising "jobs" that are really volunteer work (yet demand professional standards and a degree of commitment).

This is very pedantic (as the title suggests) but these terms suggest paid work (definition: hiring ; definition: job). What I'm wondering is, is there any legal basis for terminology? Should sites rephrase what they are advertising? Is there a more "technically correct" term or phrase that they should use?

Or am I just barking up the wrong tree looking for an article that doesn't exist? Equally correct answer :)

Yeah they should saying "Now hiring volunteers" or "Volunteers wanted" or something like that. "Now hiring" does suggest (and they know this) a proper, paid job.

Thanks for that. What I expected alright...Pity there's no actual phrase that they should or have to use. But it's good enough for me for now :D
