iTunes 9 "verification failed"

I'm hoping someone here can help me, I'm at my wits end.

The full story is that about a week ago, maybe two, funny things started happening with Flash on my MacBook, its about 12 months old, plenty of RAM, plenty of space, has run like a dream, everything going fine. So suddenly flash videos don't display properly, they get interference and strangely, pink squares that come and go.

other flash things like games load up get, to 100 percent and then just nothing, they dont move, cant start them at all. on one or two occasions I have met a blank space telling me that either, I don't have my java script turned on or the latest version of flash. Java script is turned on and I have the latest version of flash installed.

Now the really frustrating bit is that when I originally tried to download iTunes 9 I got the error "verification failed" at the end of the download. when I tried it through software updater the updater got stuck and wouldn't work, eventually it did but I get the same message. I have been trying to download apps for my new iPod Touch and whilst one or two worked all the rest I have tried today have failed. Kinda like the flash games they reach completion and then just start over, and keep going, never giving me a done message.

What the hell is going on and how do I fix it? Have I got some sort of weird virus? have I accidently deleted something important? I would be eternally grateful for any help, direction or light anyone can give on the problem. apologies for the long post, many thanks.

I wouldn't think it's a virus or anything on that, but possibly a web browser download manager or plugin recently installed, screwing up your downloads. Anything like that installed recently? What browser are you using and do you have other alternatives to try out (like Firefox instead of Safari, etc)?

Its all gotten a bit stranger, I tried downloading iTunes on my Girlfriend's Mac over the wireless network I use at home and got the very same message. Also when I used a wifi spot in town this afternoon to download some Apps to my iPod touch there was no problem at all.

The only common factor amongst all the faults is my home network, have tried the old turn it off and on again but to no avail, really dont know what to do with it now, dont really have time to do a complete reconfiguration at the moment.

That is weird indeed. Even if it's all down to your wireless router, I would expect that either you wouldn't be able to download certain files at all (or anything in some cases) or would have general connection problems, etc. But I wouldn't expect corrupted downloads, etc. Can you wire your Mac to the router? Do the problems persist then or is it only over WiFi? What router is it?
