they have just announced the annual today ski trip.
St Johann has just been announced the venue for the Topflight Today FM Ski Trip 2010! So this popular resort is now getting ready for Ian Dempsey & crew on 23rd January 2010 - book your place now!!

lad at work wants to and asked me to go along.

    a few questions

    is it good craic?

what's the cost to a total beginner to skiing. the whole trip and any gear needed for it.

has anyone been on the today fm trip?

Never done the today fm trip but skiing in general is the best holiday you will ever go on ! I went 12 years ago nd i have gone every year since !! You will love it. Days are great o the piste and then pints after are lovely too !
Word of advice is to go and see for yourself.
As for costs, check with directski.com or panorama or other ski operators

The cost of a ski holiday for someone who has never been before is quite expensive and not totally obvious from the websites especially if you are booking through a tour operator

Your best bet is to go onto a site like directski.ie and pretend you are booking something.

Accom flights and transfers will cost you approx 500E+. All depends on times of year and destination but it's a rough estimate.

Next you have gear rental (skis, boots), ski school if you want and then your list pass. Some of the tour operators offer beginner packages which work out at around 350E (ish).

You then have your clothes to buy. Getting yourself down to tK Max xor somewhere like that and getting jacket/salopettes/thermals/socks will set you back approx 150E.

You could get some dry slope lessons if you wanted to which will set you back some more. Some people do and some people don't. I did last year and I progressed faster than a total newbie and I thought I got more out of my holiday.

These are all approximate costs but you're looking at in or around 1k before you buy as much as a pint in apres ski or a bit to eat of an evening.

It is without a shadow of a doubt the BEST holiday I have EVER been on.

All the above is approximates based around 7 days in Austria not at peak time. You can DIY book too which can save yourself a fortune. Having said that I loved the convienence of the tour operator the first time I went.

irishgeois it good craic? Best holiday you will ever have? You will be dying to get back and will sell your soul to do so.

has anyone been on the today fm trip? Once many moons ago. Great crowd super atmosphere and allot of fun.

what's the cost to a total beginner to skiing. the whole trip and any gear needed for it.

Ouch Ok the today fm trip is more expensive then booking the same trip the following week with the same or a diffrent operator. It is also with topflight who are appox 10-12% more expensive than Crystal, direct ski and inghams.

Clothes Tx Maxx Bargin everything you need, you could get gloves, pants jacket, socks *4 and baselayers*4 for about €320 and it will be good kit. If you have a good waterproof jacket a fleece and a base layer there is no need to bye ski gear.

Book your ski & boot rental direct with a provider in the village (just mail the tourist office and they will give you a list or look below) works out about 8-10% cheaper than booking them through a tour operator. Basic ski and boot rental for a week should be about €80-90 Do not get the better kit as it will be wasted on a newbie cheap and cheerfull will be perfect for you.

Lift Pass is about €145-€180 depending on the resort for St Johann it will prob be in the middle of that.

Lessons on a dry slope before hend will be helpfull Kilternan in Dublin are doing one day intensive courses for newbies and as part of the trip they do a day in Kilternan beforehand which is always a good laugh. Or you can do your lessons one a week.
