I'm getting pretty tired of scanning in my line work in several parts on a standard A4 scanner.

Anyone have any experience/recommendations with a large format scanner?

Mustek A3 scanners are the large format scanner of choice of most cartoonists as they are the best quality scanner for affordable money. A Mustek ScanExpress A3 pro 1200 should cost you between $150 to $300 depending on whats on offer on ebay. Be warned they can have issues with drivers but enough artists have got them now that there is a few help guides online.

Yeh, that Mustek A3 scanner is the one I seemed to be getting the most results with when searching the internet.

    Thanks ztoical

They do seem to be the only ones under $1000 that aren't totally crap. Not saying they are the best scanners out there but the best option if you really want an A3 scanner. Whatever you do, DON'T get a large-format scanner with low optical resolution (anything under 1200 dpi). High optical resolution is necessary for any work that will see print, it sometimes better to invest in a really good A4 scanner with good resolution and colour accuracy and paste stuff together...pain I know but them's the choices one makes for art.

On PJ Holden's recommendation I bought a Brother Professional A3 Colour Inkjet Multifunction Printer - it's an A3 scanner and A3 colour inkjet printer in one, and I'm delighted with it. Amazon UK have them for £256.51, and their associates have them from £215 at time of typing (I got mine for £200 from one of them).

Never been crazy about compo scanner/printers... Whats the colour resolution like on the brother?

Wandering slightly off topic onto A3 printers when I find a decent cheap one on ebay I'm getting the Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II ... it's like the page 3 pin up of printers....so hot.

The Brother does 24 bit colour, and up to 19200 dpi. And it saves space - if I were to buy an A3 scanner and an A3 printer separately I'd have to build an extension.

I'm wondering if you can work a continuous ink system with a combo machine, would be worth space saving if you could. Sorry op we've wandered off into printers, I might start a thread for printers as I'm wondering if Brother inks are archival and thinking it we should get a list going or something to help people with stuff like that.
