Hey I just got offered an interview as a 'Associate Consultant, Recruitment' in London. Now id love to move to London but this job seems to be purely commission based, im not sure. Here's the link for it http://jobview.monster.co.uk/Associate-Consultant-Recruitment-City-of-London-Job-UK-83314062.aspx

Im just looking for a job that can pay my rent, food, a night out in town on a saturday night and occassionaly some clothes, etc. Do you guys reckon it is worth my time going over for it? I'll take the job no prob and id love the finance/banking side to it but im just a bit skeptical about the pay structure. Surely they have to have a base pay??

I used to work in Recruitment and from the look of the job spec there will be a base salary. I wouldn't set your sights on earning 100,000p/a straightaway but there's definitely the potential for it if get into the right industry (e.g. energy, finance, legal etc.) The job specs recruitment firms issue for themselves are typically sensationalist as it often attracts the more ambitious, confident and motivated applicants.

In any case it will be a tough interview and is definitely worth going for that reason alone.

OP, Associate means junior, so don't be under any illusions, it's tough work in what looks like a corporate environment and expect the consultants you're working for to take commission on the work that you do initially.
However, I'd confirm preconditions to promotion and clarity on same.
Get these sorted and you're in!
    Wouldn't be commission only either.

The UK Recruitment Industry is a lot tougher than the Irish Recruitment Industry. A lot of people dont last very long.

If it is commission only I fear that they will take you and another 10 people in and basically see what sh*t sticks i.e. bill and are actually going to cut the mustard.

London too is probably the worst city in the UK to go for a Recruitment role, I worked for a UK owned global recruitment firm in the past and from speaking to my colleagues at the time in the UK offices the consensus was that London was the toughest market out there.

The rewards are there if you succeed but you would be looking at 6 months at least before you see the proper dividends of your hard work, thats a long time to be living on the bread line if you are not billing consistently before then in commission only role.

Maybe look for companies who are offering some kind of basic and make sure you do your homework on them.

Oh and lastly, their ISO procedures in the UK are an absolute pain, a lot of administration so maybe ask if that is handled by consultants or administrators
