The Laguna is 2002 and has only one key card. Th problem is that the button on the key card to open the car is broken which means I cant lock the car as not able to open it again.

The key inside the card doesnt fit the lock on the door as an emergency entry so cant use that.

Any ideas what to do and whats the cheapest way of doing it ?

Where could i get a new card and how much ?
Is there anyway of getting the the one i have fixed?
I there anyway of getting a key that would fit the door?

    Any hep much appreciated..
    Regards

The key should fit the door or else you've got the wrong key! are you inserting it right? I know it sounds a bit bleh but sometimes with an emergency key it only works in certain doors etc.

don't panic your car can't be robbed (immobiliser).

As for getting a replacement, i'm afraid only a renault dealer can do this but be prepared to pay a bit because its gotta be coded.

Afaik if the card becomes faulty it's usually cheaper to replace rather than repair but thats based on experience with a fiat key fob.

    Best of luck

I assume you tried replacing the battery in the key. I've got a laguna II aswell and my key card isn't perfect! sometimes the lock/unlock buttons don't work but if i squeeze the centre of the face of the card and the back of the card together, and press the lock/unlock buttons it works. May not work for you but i thought i'd let you know!

KC Systems can repair key cards like yours. It might be worth giving them a call before paying a small fortune at a dealer

Myhusband has this problem regularly. Sometimes it is just the battery needs replacing, but the last time it would not even start the car so he was despret. got a sauldering iron out and diddled with the wires, having cut the card open, reglued it, and it was perfect. the renault garage had quoted him 320 euro for a new one so he was glad he did.

    hth :)

The problem with the laguna key-fob is the tiny micro-switches to open/close the doors simply dont have enough solder on them to keep them in place if its dropped (far too easy to do).

At OP, does one switch feel funny? If you shake it hard can you hear something rattling about or does the switch change its feel?

If so, you are yet another victim of the switch detaching itself from the board. The only way to fix it is to resolder the switch back to the board. BUT trying to crack the case open which is a pain, then resolder the switch and glue it all back together.

I have done 4 of these for friends and friend of friends, 3 worked 1 was beyond fixing.

Any chance the likes of this can be stickied as a Renault problem thread? There seems to be so many on here every week, and i'm not being sarcastic, it might help all the Renault owners with their problems.
