Well depending on your 'death wish level' Ballyhoura is a very good place to start, just google and go its an hour from the city, there is a down hill track outside dunmanway which is fantastic but short. A good chap to chat to about all this is robbie in rohar cycles on barrick street.

Yeah, I play footie there once a week and have seen mtb's about, where is the trail? I always thought they were coming from the dirt trak by the magic roundabout.... are mtb's allowed on that btw? cheers

There is alot of trails in the woods. You can get into the trail from the park next to the complex but there is a steep hill into the woods. (ive been over the bars here more than once)

Or there is a gravel road going into the woods (which you can see from hole 12(i think) on the pitch n putt course)

Your not really allowed in there i would say but there is always people there and that trails are pretty clear.

Some great fast trails around once you climb all the way to the top of the fire road on a bit heavy MTB :P

Not 100% sure on the ownership. They could be pretty large if you wanted them to be. I havnt been all around the forrest yet but there is alot of different trails around the place.
