Is it the Astra 3dr Sporthatch or Coupe/Convertible you are looking at?

Also a bit odd going from looking at A4s to looking at Astras, two different class of car.

If you look hard enough you will find problems with most cars, even an Astra.

I'd suggest holding out buying a car. You just went from an A4 to a Astra very quickly because you heard an A4 might be unreliable. The A4 is a saloon and the Astra a coupe. Are you sure you really know what you want?

    Ye sorry its a GTC-SXI 1.4 litre...

Ye I am pretty sure but I would love a 1.6 but there is feck all of them around...

I wants a car that looks good & is new enough... something sporty like...

These are the cars I chose & the reasons I didn't choose them...

A Mazda 6 2006 - because the 08's (can't afford one) are the most beautiful car on the road & they put the old shape to shame... 1.8 is a bit costly

A Honda Accord - finally said **** it I'll get a 1.8 because they are beautiful and then I realised the 1.8 are the old shape :( the new ones only come in a 2.0

An A4 - a bit dear & I wouldn't touch anythin made by volswagon again!

OP, whats your budget and your yearly mileage?

If your looking at the Astra Sporthatch then the 1.3 CDTi diesel probably makes more sense than the 1.4 petrol. The diesel is a Fiat engine and one of the best in it's class.

    Budget permitting of course.

The Fiat 1.3CDTi engine is a fantastic engine, I regularly get 65 mpg in my Corsa with this and it's pretty nippy, when you need it.

If you were thinking about a 1.6, have you considered a 1.9cdti?

They are quite rare in Ireland but there is quite a few of them going for reasonably cheap in the UK. They are very quick and average just around 50mpg, much better than a 1.6
