Bertie on campus - but why?

Am I the only person to notice that Bertie Ahern was on campus this week? It was Monday - he just pulled up outside the Henry Grattan, was greeted by a few people and disappeared around the corner. No security, no ceremony, and one photographer.

I have asked a few of my lecturers who were either surprised and didn't know he was even here, or they refused to answer at all.

    All very odd to me.

Anyone got any ideas, or shed some light on this cloak and dagger visit?

Yeah saw him getting out the car as well, I'm sure he has loads of engagements in colleges and stuff.

Bertie Ahern TD (correct title and all that) was on campus to do an interview with DCUfm. The station has a number of high-profile guests for it's flagship current affairs show - "Studio One".

The interview will be aired on Monday 5th Oct at 2pm on www.dcufm.com

It is an hour long. We would have loved to air it sooner but it deals with his autobiography and various issues that cannot be aired till Monday.

Log on, listen in at 2pm Monday 5th Oct.

I'm sure this will be disregarded as a grumbling old man but I find it disgusting and offensive that my old college (I graduated twice in 2003 and 2004) is giving free publicity to a man who can't get a tax clearance certificate from the Revenue and single handedly left this country with a mess that will take generations to fix. If you insist on calling him a TD, why doesn't he attend the Dail?

So that is what he was here for. Well done DCU FM for getting him, that's a fantastic big hitter to be pulling in in fairness. Looking forward to hearing it.

LOL......I think that markpb is a tad misguided to say the least. We all share the blame in terms of what has happened - even though the government had a very big hand to play in it. We did after all continue to vote for them - well the majority of people did anyway.

I think its just silly to take away from such a fantastic coup for DCUFM. Is this the calibre of guests that the station gets?

I was convinced I saw him in car when I was walking along towards the Collins Avenue entrance. Glad to know I was right.

I''m genuinely shocked to see that kind of comment from you markpb. While I'm not exactly his biggest fan I still wouldn't describe his legacy with such hyperbolic nonsense as that.

Anyway, fair play to DCUfm for getting such a high profile speaker. Hopefully the interview won't pander to him too much and engages him on some of the issues towards the end of his term as Taoiseach or, at the very least, comments on some of the content in his autobiography.

If anyone HATES the man I do..I could be here all night listing why (one being the fact he signed away our right to royalties from the Trillions worth of oil and gas Ireland is sitting on..something very few people know.he passed a law that reduced our share in this gas from 50% to 0%..one of the reasons people are opposed to the Corrib gas project..anyhow I'm rambling now...taking all that aside I still think it looks great for DCUFM....it's going to get the station noticed :)

Oh we know, we also recognise the reality of the situation and don't buy into the bull**** being spouted by the anti-Corrib nutjobs. Feel free to discuss it in the likes of the Politics or After Hours forum though, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to tear you a new one.

Off topic and you're trying to provoke me into an argument which I refuse to have with someone who clearly knows noting about the situation and supports the huge corporate murderous company that is Shell....

I just wanted people to see that despite our hatred of Bertie we could still appreciate that him being interviewed by Dcufm was a great thing for the station....

Actually I was aiming to deflect any further derailment of the topic by pointing you to the appropriate forum. Your use of such hyperbolic statements with regards to Shell is also as flame-baiting as anything else in the thread.

Your point is noted however, as I said though, just try and be a little more subtle in the future. :)

And I thought people had matured past lauding disgraced former public servants with the 'Ah sure fair play' attitude.
Maybe I'm just a little irked due to the Bank of Ireland having the cheek to back cutting social welfare...a bank backing the reduction of government financial assistance to the very people charged with keeping them in the board room.

Was Bertied payed via cheque or suitcase?
