What is the possible choices of getting out of an O2 contract?

as the thread title suggests, i'm just wondering what are the alternatives into getting out of an o2 contract.

atm, im finding it hard to keep control of my spending on my new iPhone tariff, i was always with pre pay vodafone, and switched to get the iPhone on 3gs launch day, and now im kinda regretting at least not going for the pre pay option rather then going down the contract road, at least then id not be tied to a contract and could of then just jailbreaking it and using my vodafone, they be none the wiser.

im on the 45 euro a month tarriff, a mate of mine said just simply not bother paying yuor biill and they;ll send letters and stuff out, but i dont wanna be asscoiated with having bad credit or a company chasing you for money, its not me, im not that person, so, if you go into them and you give them some sob story, they'll more likely say that you can pay the remainder of your contract up front right, but 3 months into an 18 month contract is a lot of money to pay.

just wondering if anyone here has had any similar scenarios, and if so, what did you do?

    1) Pay up remainder
    2) Don't pay up remainder and have abad credit rating/have O2 chase you though the courts or better still a debt collection agency.......

A friend of mine moved to the USA. He contacted O2 and they said just pay €5 a month for the remaining months. Maybe he had to produce flight tickets or something (don't know).

I'd say rather than call into a store and ask phone and talk to a team leader/someone above 1st level support- they won't have the power to make the decision. I think there's a 'sales/contract renewals dept'.

I'd imagine your stuffed. Should have sat down and considered whether €45x18=€810 was worth it.

How are you going over? What is your average bill working out to be? What are you using the most (calls/texts)?

my last bill was around 107, whatt i've done now though is buy a vodafone sim i'm just gonna use that to text folk when about the house and use just my minutes and texts allocated on o2.

yeah ill just have to sit it out, as i said i aint going down any road that will have them chasing me as i wanna keep myself clean.

You can try the clause a lot of people are using to get out of the o2 broadband contracts - that o2 are now blocking access to sites, and this directly contravines the contract you signed with them.

you give me the sites and ill try em lol

they dont block the sites on my phone though that eircom block, so its gonna be a tough one lol

ah its basically texts thats riving it through the roof, even if i went for the higher tarriff to get unlimited texts thats still bumping me up towards 80 odd euro, i dont wanna get tied into a tarrriff for 80 quid a month, i have it sorted, i got a vodafone sim get free texts for a month as ive added a bundle for 300 texts to my o2 for 16 euro so cancel that, just top up this other number, and when im about the house text from the other phone, when im out and about il use my main iPhone and just use the included minute and texts theyve provided

You can pay a certain amount to get out of the contract (usually about 200-300) or pay the remainders of your bills (whichevers less)...

Its really just up to you but they will hound you til its paid... and you will eventually go to court...

If you think about it you've 15 months left & says its 200 to break the contract then its only really 11 euro a month... although I'd say you've to pay it in full... but its better then gettin 100 quid a month bills in for overspending...

And I think you get to keep the phone :)
