Home eyelash dyeing

I have dark eyelashes and normally wear clear mascara but when I'm going out I wear dark mascara for a bit of oomph.

But I've noticed as I've gotten older that my lashes aren't as thick and the tips are blonder than before.

I was thinking of getting them dyed, but I don't want to go to a salon because I've seen some shoddy dye jobs and I'd rather do it myself. :p

Can anyone recommend a good dye kit that looks natural and doesn't look too mascara-like.
    Thanks

I've pretty blonde eyelashes and I've used Colorsport dye from Boots. There's a black and a brown one. It works well on the eyebrows, but you have to leave it on for ages for the lashes! Bit messier than just going to a salon, but I think it's less dramatic if that's what you want.

Just be very careful with dying your own eyelashes. If you get the dye in your eye it can be quite nasty. And also, you don't want to stain your skin.

You could contact some beauty schools and see if they need models or if you trust your friend to do it.

Oh, get yourself some eyelash curlers. They'll help loads!

i used the eyelure kit, from boots or any chemist.

note, i said USED, past tense!

very awkward and messy, and not worth the hassle, imo.

for the amount youd save doing it yourself its probably not worth the hassle. itd be pretty hard to do it since youd have to keep your eyes closed! Ive found my eyes sting pretty badly if even a tiny bit of dye gets into them, if i tried to do it myself id probably blind myself

If you go into Terry Sales on Abbey Street they'll advise you.. I buy Beehive blue black tint and a developing solution seperate and mix them myself.. just make sure you put plenty of Vaseline on the skin around your eyes whatever you do, so you don't end up dying your skin aswel cause it's very hard to remove..

I don't bother closing my eyes, I just put Vaseline on the skin around them and then apply the dye with a mascara wand, the same way I'd put on my mascara and leave it on for 15 minutes.. then wipe away with cotton wool.. works out fine for me and I have very sensitive eyes..

hmmm. would never have thought of a mascara wand, how simple.. i was imagining closing my eyes and brushing it on. is it not hard to get it down to the base of the lashes?

my friend does it for me anyway, and tints & shapes my eyebrows. i like how she does it & i trust her so i dont mind paying her (& its cheaper than a salon would be anyway!)

    Thanks for the replies

The reason I won't go to a salon is I am a perfectionist and I find their dye jobs not up to my standard - That sounds really obnoxious but I expect a job to be done right (My Mum gets her eyelashes done by a few different therapists and everytime there is a bit of eyelash not done properly and it drives me mad!!)

I always find it's better when a beautician does it as they can see from above so they can get the roots better, have them evenly covered, etc.
