Of course, low quality and low resolution. It saves bandwidth and costs for them, and accommodates people with slower connections.
RTÉ player streams video at 512KB per second. Watching video for an hour would use up around 240MB.
Now, that cannot be right... Half the country wouldn't be able to avail of it, including me. Funny, because, it works fine and has always worked fine.

My guess is that it's actually 512Kb per second (Kbps - Kilobits per second), which would use around 240MB (MegaBytes). I did the calculations and I got 230,400KB or 230.4MB, but rounding up to 240MB isn't unreasonable of them.

They really should learn the differences between bits and Bytes, or inform their web content people or webmasters to correct these silly mistakes.

Can you be more specific? Does the site load at all? Could it be possible that you haven't the latest version of Flash Player installed? What browser do you use? Have you tried it on another browser? Also, who is your ISP?

The site works fine for me. I'm using Firefox 3.5.3 and Flash Player 10.0.32.18 (both latest versions at the time of posting this), but I had used earlier versions of both as I have been using the player since it came out, before these latest version releases.

I was having difficulty accessing the RTE Player earlier as well. A combination of the page not loading at all and a strange rte proxy error.

    Its working fine now though.

Earlier, as in earlier today? If not, was the problem over a long period or did it only last a few days/hours? Also, who is your ISP?
