Help! My taskbar icons are disappearing

Some of the icons on the bottom right of the screen on the taskbar have disappeared. My battery, volume and internet icons have all gone. All the rest are there though as far as I know.

I've opened up the taskbar and start menu properties but cant seem to get them back. I tried customising the taskbar to try and get them back but they're not in the list.

    Any ideas???

You should find all those items in the control panel, If you click on properties of the individual items there should be a tick box somewhere to "show icon in notification area" or something along those lines.

Thanks. Found what you were talking about - in taskbar and start menu properties under the notification area tab. But it wont let me tick the boxes beside volume, network or power. The only one that it will let me tick or untick is the clock.

Have you the option to "Hide Inactive Icons" ticked?

Ya, "Hide inactive Icons" is ticked and when i go into customise the inactive icons none of the items that are gone missing are there. Whether I tick or untick the inactive icons it wont let me tick the volume, network or power below that button.

Right click on the task bar and go to properties.

Click on the Notification Area tab, There should be a Customise button there, From that you can scroll down your list of programs and set the behaviour on the task bar.

P.S. That's for vista, But Xp is most likely the same.

    Down THIS & run it.

It is from a very well trusted source (Kellys Korner) & would not post if I wasn't fully sure that it is safe to run.

My friend has the same issue and the volume, network and power are greyed out. Hide inactive icons is not ticked. I'm not too familiar with vista, so any ideas what should be changed?

have you tried restarting the pc, them icons can vanish on a vista laptop that is only ever put to standby

Sometimes if explorer crashes I've noticed this, a reboot sorts it out..
