Should I use a screen protector on a 3GS?

I'm currently using a SwitchEasy screen protector on it, and it makes the screen look pretty grainy - Mainly when I'm in a primarily white application like Mail or just browsing websites.

But it is pretty good in the way that not ONE fingerprint gets on the screen, and the anti-glare is superb. [Both of these are because it's matte-style].

I just think it looks so much better naked, but I'm not sure how bad it will scratch.

I'm guessing the Oleopathic screen is plastic so it's going to scratch more easily as well.

I have my front-right pocket reserved for my phone and never put anything else in with it, but I guess that doesn't really matter that much as it can get scratched outside of it, etc.

TLDR: iPhone 3GS, use screen protector or not? Current protector makes the screen look grainy. I never put anything in pocket with the iPhone.

Oh yeah I know it is.

But the oleopathic coating over the screen is plastic I think.

So that will get scratched and make it look like the screen itself is scratched.

    Are you using a 3GS?

That's exactly what I do - and I've had 18 months scratch free iPhone. My missis has a screen cover and I hate them.

Ultimately it all depends how you treat it outside your pocket.

    3 questions :) :
    1. What was the shipping (or do CarphoneWarehouse IE carry them, like their UK counterparts?)
    2. Was it hard to apply? Hard to apply perfectly!?
    3. Is the orange peel effect bad?

    Ta!

Bought 2 in a pack in CPW. A tenner. Top job. Gives the screen a slightly Matt effect but I quite like it. You'd never know its there. Squeegy to iron out bubbles included, anti-stat cloth, as well as protective backing films which you remove prior to fitting.

Probably the same one you have !

I'm always one to recommend screen protectors, especially on bigger screens. Like another poster mentioned though, taking care of your handset does wonders for your screen's protection too. I previously bought the same handset at the same time as a friend of mine and only after a few months, their handset was in bits while mine still looked brand new. The difference? They kept their handset in their pocket with keys, coins etc.

is this the only one that CPW have on sale?

Anyone know how it'd compare to this expensive one?

or the top ones here at ilounge reviews

    cheers,
    Patrick.

There great if you can put them on. I had screen covers but i just cant for the life of me get them on the screen without bubbles or been in the wring position. I guess id never make a good surgeon. :)

Im the same as the other posters, just make sure i stick it in a pocket with nothing else. Have the 3gs since it came out and no scratches yet.

O2 Stores have the invisible shield and it's the best scratch protection ever. I put one on my ipod touch a few years ago and the front is still perfect. The back corners are starting to fray, but my 3 year old watches movies on it now, while i play with my iphone.
I am crap at putting these things on, but as long as you turn off the phone (so no one calls while you're doing it) and give yourself a half hour/ 45 mins you'll be fine. Do it last thing at night so it can dry out over night and stick better.
I only have the shield on the front as i put a case on the back to help with drops so didn't see a need to but the back shield on

Are the screen protectors permanent once you put them on or are they held on with static?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,445 ✭✭✭jd83

there not sticky and they come off easy its just putting them on thats the problem :)

I have used Zagg and this FullBodyFilms.

The FullBodyFilms are by far the best, on the screen anyway. Barely notice them unlike the Zagg.

I end up getting one of these and these
They take away from the look but for what they cost, €5 in total, they actually work ok. It'll help me get over that initial new toy don't wanna get it wrecked buzz.

Had the invisible shield for my touch and it is absolutely brilliant. I bought another for my iphone when I got it but, for some unknown reason, I haven't put it on yet.
Must do that soon. Like ye guys, I have my front left pocket for iphone only now. But that's a bit annoying and also it is still getting little marks on it.

    +1

Zagg is poor. Even with the steadiest of hands and patience, it cheapens the appearance. The back film is particularly crap and will not last when used in conjunction with a in-car holder.

Switcheasy for the front, if you don't mind the slightly grainy look, is very good. FBF also very good as previously mentioned.
