Importing - Tax & NCT

I imported a car from the UK but recession means that after clearing the VRT I cant keep afford to keep it. At the moment its off-road and has been since I brought it into the country. I cleared the VRT on it today.

To sell it Ill need an NCT which Im going to apply for tomorrow. Does the car need to be taxed for it to get the NCT? Does a similar exemption system operate here for vehicles declared as off-road as in the UK? Even if it does, presumably driving it to the NCT centre negates any exemption?

It's also not currently insured as its parked up in a shed. Is there any way to get insurance for a couple of days so I can take it on the road to the NCT centre?

This is proving a costly nightmare and the sooner Im shot of it the better. Cheers.

You will need to tax it anyway in order to get the VLC. The VRO won't send you the VLC without taxing it for the first time.

I don't remember having to do this myself, as far as I know I got the VLC before I taxed mine.

I have had to do it on the last few cars that I cleared, last one was as recent as June.
