just checked a car im interested on my wheels.ie and the result came back as warning because it hasnt been taxed since may 2009. Is this much of a problem, i really want the car and id tax it straight away but could there be any reason why it wasnt taxed before.

    Is it in a dealerships?

It could have been for sale since May, the dealer wouldn't pay the tax, when you buy it you'll only have to pay tax from the month you bought it.

If its a private sale then the seller could simply have not renewed the tax if they have no use for the car.

No worries at all if its in a dealership, the tax just ran out when they had it in stock

shur if it was in a dealer, they wouldnt tax it, i woudnt worry about it

go and have a nose at it, and ask about the tax, get em to throw in 3 months tax or better ;)

If its at a dealer, don't worry about the tax. the dealership have prob just had it since the start of the summer. Theres dealers out there who've had cars in stock a hell of a lot longer than that.

the mywheels website is not accurate i can guarantee that i have seen numerous times where it has been wrong with the info very out of date over a year in some cases , if in a dealership it doesnt matter anyway , but just to let you know

Have found it wrong about tax , number of owners and about a car being written off , I put a deposit on a car a few weeks back did a check with cartell and they told me it was written off was without tax on 3 occasions for over 6 months and there was finance owed on it mywheels said everything was perfect , not the first time that happened

i always thought that part indicated number of previous owners. So 0 would mean the current owner is the only one.

Well I've checked my own, which I'm the only owner of (but it's an import) and it states one. Perhaps someone who's bought a car from new, not imported could check? :)

I bought a new car and it states it as 1 owner if thats any help

I wouldn't take mywheels as gospel. Its a useful site and mostly right but if your gonna be spending big bucks on a car a few quid with cartell.ie would be the best thing to do and also mabey hpi in UK if importing as these crowds are more accurate.

(And since your paying for these I presume your more legally covered if something goes wrong)

Thanks! Strange though, why would the one I'm putting in have 0 owners I wonder? It's taxed and NCT'd and all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭BlackWizard

Would it of been imported or something like that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Nope, it says if it has been, my van is from the UK and says imported and 1 owner in Ireland (me). It also says the car is blue but it's clearly green in the picture and described as green in the ad too:confused:

There was a thread about mywheels and it had loads of mistakes. It said my tax was out when it wasn't. It said the girlfirends car had an engine changed when it hadn't.
But I reckon, as mentioned before, the car is probably in a dealers.

It doesn't say imported for the first month or two, if it is and 0 owners could very well mean, that it's been imported, but not registered in Shannon yet.

mywheels.ie is a guideline, don't hang yourself up in stuff like that. If it's in a dealership, they'll sort this out for you, when you buy it. Why would they buy tax, when it's just sitting in the lot.
