St. Nicholas Abbey - Epson Derby.

I heard Ivan Yates tip St Nicolas Abbey to win the Epson Derby on Newstalk yesterday."You heard it here 1st"
Just wondering if anyone has backed him.
PP has him at 8-1 F.
    Coral at 12-1 F.

"He's a lovely horse and he's come well forward for his last run. He looks to be a Classic-type horse for next year and Johnny was really impressed with him," O'Brien said. "He's got gears. He is very exciting and one to look forward to." Only time and another run this season will reveal just how good St Nicholas Abbey might turn out to be but for now he looks at the top of the Ballydoyle juvenile tree.

Steinbeck was the one catching the birds earlier in the year. One run, one win and he's been rested since but going to run soon i think.

With Ballydoyle having so many colts and some don't run until this time of the year and are then put away for the winter, antepost at this stage is a shot in the dark for any of the classics.

Nick Mordin was singing his praises last week

Looks a promising horse alright, I'm not sure I'd take 12/1 now but having said that if he goes and wins something like the Racingpost trophy then he'll be half that price

For anyone that didnt back him at 12's, he is now 10-1. I backed him myself at 12's last week. He does appear to be O'Briens No. 1 hope for the Derby and at 12-1, with the talent O'Brien has, is a fair price. O'Brien has the cream of the crop and even if he lines up for the Derby he will prob. be fav.

I backed Steinbeck @ 14-1 for the Guineas next year as well as O'Brien was singing his praises earlier on in the year. He had a training setback so he has only had the 1 run. He may run again this year if he is alright.

Regards ante-post betting, tbh you cant go far wrong with backing O'Briens main juveniles for the Classics (colts only) as they always fair well and will most likely be favourites come Classic time. Just look at his record in the Classics. People can wait until he is 5-2 next May if they want.

ST NICHOLAS Abbey is clear favourite for Saturday's Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster.
Aidan O'Brien's unbeaten Montjeu colt has been the name on many people's lips for next year's Derby after winning the Beresford Stakes - a race that featured on Sea The Stars' CV.

Racing Post Trophy, Paddy Power: 9-4 St Nicholas Abbey:), 4 Elusive Pimpernel, 5 Al Zir, Coordinated Cut, 14 Joshua Tree, Marfach, Morana, Shakespearean, 16 bar.

    You've been warned

Quite strong in the betting, just watched the preview on RP tv and they said a lot of rain is expected which should suit SNA

Looks a very hot 2yo race

Definitely going to back him tomorrow. There seems to be a really good vibe about this horse.

SERIOUSLY impressive run. He could be another sea the stars on that performance, his turn of foot at the 2f mark was incredible.

Quoted at 3/1 Fav with most bookies for the epsom derby next year.

Excellent performance. He showed some turn of foot to put this race to bed.Normally Racing Post Trophy winners don't go on to even contest the Guineas, never mind win it, but he has such a high cruising speed he may well be able to buck this trend.

Got to say he was impressive but remember that Crowded House burst out of the pack last year and won well.

Steinbeck for the Guineas and St Nicholas for the Derbys i think on the last 8 days info.

It is amazing just how many have failed to make the grade over the years, but St. Nicholas Abbey looks exceptional.
Given the statistics of those who failed to train on, 3/1 is hardly generous.

Thats a runaway winner in the RP trophy, and 1,2 and 4 in the dewhurst for O'Brien.

Makes Godolphins successes in juvenile donkey derbys earlier in the season look like exactly like what they are.

I wish Godolphin would stop buying the ready made winners, and would focus on creating their own champions.

They've no chance as long as they keep boycotting the coolmore stallions

    Indeed.
And often the ready made winners stop winning when purchased by Godolphin.
When they are successful, often Godolphin can't claim the full credit.
