cmurph, not sure I can help specifically, but am a huge fan of Hyundais in terms of their reliability. I drove the i30 a few times as a courtesy car when my machine was in for service and found it grand. That was only around town pottering though. When you do as many miles as you do, the one thing you need to be sure of is comfort. Don't make the choice based on a bald comparison of mileage, mpg figures and diesel v petrol fuel costs. You might find you're driving a machine which is undoubtedly the better value option, but which you can barely climb out of at journey's end.

I'd be inclined to go with the bigger machine as it's likely to be more comfortable and also that bit safer.

There are others on here better qualified to give you details on specific machines your're considering.

Drive them. Drive them. Drive them. The only way to know.

€15K all in would get you a low mileage 2008 1.6 TDCi Focus from the UK. That would be my choice, and with that mileage I would discount a 1.4 petrol. If you spend that much time on the road a diesel with it's better mpg and power is the obvious choice.

Plus the re-mapping possibilities of a diesel, if you get bored of the 110-115 bhp ;)
