    Hey Guys,

I couldn't find any thread like this but if there is please point it out.

As I'm in 6th year, very interested in this. Really wondering about the study in College. Difference's like the structure of courses (EG The rote learning in the LC VS actual research etc). Would like some feedback from college students please :) I personally don't like rote learning, would love more hands on learning even just for the fact that the material is easier to absorm and not such a chore.

I've heard alot of things like College is easier than the LC because of interest / teachig methods etc (Very subjective I would imagine though). Don't need any info on the social aspect as I think we all know that aspect inside out ;)

Any other feedback would be great :)

    Barry.

Currently going to a PLC course and love it. Completely different from school.

Your late, you wait till the break, your out, no one cares. Way less strict, you walk out of class when you want to go to the bathroom, you hang in the common room and play pool it's awesome!

I am doing a media course so its much more hands on than other courses would. But if you want an idea of average week.

I do 19 hours of lectures a week, got Mondays off :)
Aswell as all the normal lectures in the week on Tues I had to meet with a group to throw around ideas for a assignment due next week where we have to do a skit, video ect around a certain topic and theme, on weds I met with another group to discuss another different assignment for a tv studio show and I got a radio script, thurs i will be making this radio show and filming scenes with the first group aswell as meeting with the tv studio group again, fri i will be doing more filming and then pitching my tv studio idea to our lecturer.

This is just my third week in :) It's awesome!

7th year in college... i think???

yes its very different to school, your allowed be alot more creative... you can apply in many cases your own interests to what your working on, making it less like work and more like a personal project. depends on what you study greatly, some courses like engineering or teaching is quite like school. what you thinking of doing?

There's a lot of rote learning in Science based courses tbh. It's not a severe as the Leaving, there is a much bigger emphasis on actually understanding the material, but it's there.

It really just depends what you're going on to do.

Also research? When! I wont do any until I'm in 4th at the absolute earliest!

I did Comp Sci for a couple of years.
Good subject with a mix of theory and practical.
There wasn't a whole lot, if any, rote learning. It was a case of practising programming and understanding concepts.
You could definitely do worse courses.

College exams are a piece of pish. At least in college, you choose the course you want to study. There'll be some compulsory modules and you can pick the rest. It is a lot more practical compared to schoo. You'll probably have a mix of continuous asssessment/projects so that the final written exam only accounts for maybe 50%-70% of your overall score.

Dont do any of this. Putting your hand up and waiting to be spoken to before you speak ****e.
    Just ask the question.
If you do bad in exams you cant blame the teacher.
You can smoke all you like, if you do.

some courses like engineering or teaching is quite like school.

Wrong. In engineering, you will get to do a final year project. There, you will have to think of ways to develop a service, product or a system that will do a specific sort of work, which is not like school. It demands a completely different kind of creativity. Teaching is also not like school, you will get to collaborate with students from other colleges to solve a particular problem in teaching or classroom issues, etc.
