O2 Upgrade to iPhone 3Gs

Hi My father is due an upgrade with O2 so I was wondering would I be able to use this upgrade to get the iPhone 3Gs and put my sim card into it? I am also with O2 but prepay not bill. Or would O2 be able to block my sim card from working with it? Cheers for the help.

But I just thought there what would happen to the price plan that he would have to sign up to? Would he still have to continue paying that or can he transfer it to another phone?
