Stem sizes

Im replacing the stem on my road bike and am a bit confused by the measurements given on line ie 31.8mm,26mm,25.8mm,28.6mm. The length of my current stem is 110mm but i need to reduce it to a 90mm.Can anybody explain these other measurements,as i cant buy until i know what size to order. Thanks in advance.

As well as having the stem length, you have the diameters of both the stesrer tube and the handle bars.
