I'll be at home at lunchtime for the first time in months. After yesterday's Ladies Football Final in Croke Park, there are no more GAA matches there for the rest of the year. So next Sunday, my routine of heading across the city to Croke Park will have to be put on ice for some time to come. No International Rules to go to, as was the expectation earlier in the year, so this is it. My beloved summer Sunday afternoons spent in Croke Park, and the occasional other venue, are over.:(

There'll be club and league games to go to in the coming months, which will get me out on some of those Sunday afternoons, but the buzz and routine of going to Croke Park Sunday after Sunday which I love is finished. Even after the All-Ireland Football Final last week, it was noticeably darker on Monday morning when I was getting up. The All-Ireland finals are all over, and the winter is coming. The "Who'll win the All-Ireland?" question has been answered for a number of categories. As soon as it is, we start asking all over again, now for 2010, but we've a long way to wait until the start of the process of answering it begins. It is a long way off now, after the high of the last few months, but as it does every year, it will come round again.:) I'll be in cold turkey for a while, but I'll get through the winter, warm up with a few club, O'Byrne Cup and league games, and then before I know it, I'll be back heading to Croke Park again. The joys of being a GAA fan.:D

Ah yes but you just know that if you kept going and going and going week in week out,the whole magic of Croke Park and the championship would fade. Not only have you got the club championships which will keep us going til November (at least) depending on the run of our county championships but the All Stars and the draw for next years championship will start to create a bit of interest looking forward and in the meantime we'll have the Blue Stars,O Byrne/Walsh Cup and NFL/NHL to keep us going until April. From then until May/June we will have the buildup of the championship plus a few challenge matches for our opening round.

I find the most depressing time in the calendar is mid November until early January but sure you can always comes out and give me a hand with my matches being a sideline official or umpire.:D

Yes, referees always need someone to mind their guide dog for them during the match. ;)

If you really want to cross the city for a quality GAA match, I've a junior B division 5 hurling match in Malahide at 12. A must see for true GAA supporters;););)

I've often been across to be in place for a match in Croke Park by midday, but one bonus of the end of matches there, is that I don't have to get up as early. So while I will be up by 12, I'll still be getting up later than I have on a Sunday for a number of months. No matches in Croke Park to go to, but that does allow me a bit of a lie-in. Every cloud has a silver lining. :)

Well here I am, Sunday afternoon, at home. No Croke Park, but plenty of TV sport between formula 1, snooker, horseracing and of course a bit of GAA.

I'm telling you, you missed a good old game in Malahide. 3-13 to 2-12:p:p:p

I really don't get it.You should have gone down to Parnell Park and watched some real football as the Dublin Junior Championships A,B and C were on.Just flash the oul Parnell Park Pass and enjoy.

Of course,GAA is not all about the intercounty scene.I love September to November and February to March as the grassroots of the game at club level takes prominance and without that there'd be no Croke Park or intercounty football/hurling.

It is imperative for you to go see Crokes v Boden tomorrow in Parnell Park.
