Polar CS200cad - Speed Not Being Read

    Hey,

I've a problem with my speedo/cadence/HR monitor - Polar's CS200cad. Recently its stopped reporting the speed. The only way it works is if I get the magnet to touch off the sensor, and then it'll stop working 50m's later. The battery shouldn't be dead as its done minimal cycling since getting it. Previously it was working and I've changed none of the set-up on the bike. When it does pass the sensor I can hear the "click" that happens when it knows the magnet has passed but this isn't passed on the computer for some reason.

Any advice for solution? Is this a problem that's commonly encountered?

(I've already gone to the manual and its not very helpful)

    Cheers,

Mine does something similar: On a spin if we stop in for coffee and then head off again, it doesn't report the speed. So, I end up having to save multiple files for one spin, PITA. Do you have the sensor far away from the computer?

There's basically three things involved here.
    1. The magnet
    2. The pickup
    3. The connection between pickup and head

You say you hear the click on the pickup which says both it and the magnet are ok. Now there's the connection between pickup and head. You can test the head by shorting the two contacts on the back of it. Use the points of a scissors or something like that. The head should register something and by making and breaking the contact rapidly it should register some speed.

To test the pickup to head bit, you can use a multimeter on ohms or diode settings ( the diode setting should beep on contact). Connect to the contacts on the head mounting bracket and move the magnet over the pickup. If it's working, the meter should register.

If you don't have a meter, use a battery, some wire and a bulb. Connect these in series with the contacts and move the magnet again. The bulb should flash (maybe dimly).

Of course if this is a wireless pickup then none of that will help but you should check batteries...
