My husbands car passed the NCT about 3 months ago. Needed one new tyre and a brake light. Excellent. Since then though the Exhaust fell off and needed to be replaced from the cat back and when I saw it it was in bits! Then it needed new brake pads and discs and the Power steering fluid is leaking.....

I'm getting all this fixed but just can't believe it passed the NCT. Apparently the discs were in really bad shape.

Your brakes can be fecked on both sides and they wont notice because its all about imbalance rather than actual stopping strength, there are stopping force limits based on the gross vehicle weight but they're very low to account for the fact some vehicles will have brake drums rather than discs.

The only chance is a visual inspection as they wont go taking the wheels off, so if you cant see through your alloys too well they probably wont see much of the discs.

NCT is really a minimum standard. If all these things were still only just in tolerance, tehn He's just been qute lucky.
