A Little advice - FAS meeting ?

    Hi Everyone,

Hoping you can help me, My mum is worried sick of this meeting. Firstly she has retired from work and on her pension but part of the process is signing on for your JSB when you leave work. She has worked for 35 years and is at the end of her working life, she has declared her pension/voluntary redundancy to the dole office so they know all the ins and outs of her retirement.

She has been called for one of these meetings with Fas, but she has no intention of working again as she has now retired. But she is worried what they will ask and make her go on course or apply for jobs when she has no intention of going back to work anymore as she is retired.

Can someone tell me what sort of questions they will ask her , and what will they say if she says she has no intention of working or what should she say?

    Cheers

As part of the conditionality for claiming jobseekers - is it not the case that your mum has to be "available for and genuinely seeking work".

This is true, but for some reason when you retire and take voluntary redundancy , you have to apply for JSB for some reason another, if you dont it affects your state pension down the line.

So how about having to produce evidence of jobseeking - do they not have to do this when taking early retirement and claiming jobseekers. And yet the DSFA chose to do away with early retirement allowance.... crazy.

Best advice - get Mum or someone she knows to check FAS website for courses in her area - look for the shortest one and they are doing quite a number of short courses now ie 3 weeks - sign up for 3 week course - they'll be off your back and if u pick a popular course there are quite long waiting lists as well. If it doesnt suit to do it when she's called just say she going on weeks hols and call her for next one - hope this helps - one more thing - if she could pick a course that is only done as an evening course that would also suffice

PRSI stamps/credits no? for the state pension.

What pension is she on. Private or state?

In the current market with scarce jobs, and long queues for courses. Even if you tried your hardest it might take a long time to get on either. I wouldn't worry about it.
