What is it? Fly into and out of Buenos Aires and just make your way around the continent?

For South East Asia everyone generally flies into Bangkok, goes around in a circle and does Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and flies back out of Bangkok.

For Australia everyone does the Melbourne to Cairns route.

What's the craic with South America?

    Cheers.

Depends where you are flying out too, I flew into Rio down thru Iguazu then Buenos Aires upto Cusco then up to LA and out to NZ.

But i think ppl normally go in a U shape starting right to left.

The 3 times i been i came from Central America. Starting in either Ecuador or Colombia. Working my way down and then out through either Buenos Aires or Santiago. It depends on where you are flying from and flying to after South America. My friend flew out to Colombia from Dublin and out of Buenos Aires for 700 euro with Continental. Think it was Dublin - Newark - Bogota on the way out and Buenos Aires - Houston - Newark - Dublin on the way back. That suited him to start from the top and work his way down as he was going home after it. But if you are going on towards Australia you'd need to be down in Argentina or Chile.

Arriving from Ireland and going back to Ireland. What would be the best way to tackle it?

What countries or areas do you want to visit ? How long have you got ?

I flew Dublin > London > Sao Paulo but left via Santiago

Have not looked into that much, hence im putting lazy questions up! Seems to be decisions to be made where as with other places tis all mapped really.

About 4 months to knock about...Not sure exactly what countries i want to visit..The usual..Argentina,Bolivia,Colombia,Brazil,Peru..Any thoughts?

Im doing Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia and Chilli then flying out of Santiago to Sydney. Very well beaten track. If your planning on going to Colombia your talking about going a bit further up the continent.

Well if you wanna start in Argentina. Fly into Argentina and out through Colombia. Easily done with one stop over in Newark for about 2 hours. Or if you wanna start in Colombia fly in there and out or Argentina. I never see the logic in doing the loop if you are going up north as far as you are planning. Unless you wanted to spend a few days on a river trying to get to Colombia from Brazil and then back down the west coast. Ecuador is worth some time as well since you're going that way.
