None of the computers in LG12 work properly. Debians wouldn't sign in, Firefox wouldn't start on the XPs and Internet Explorer could only access the TCD homepage (not even the mail portal). There seemed to be a plethora of Roxio and McAfee bloat installed making boot-up take about 5 minutes. It also smelled.

Yeah it's pretty ****. I'm on IE now and can't sign in to email (including hotmail) or youtube or facebook. And I've had 3 hours to kill

In Read's earlier, I overheard possibly the most inane conversation evar.

A group of D4-accented [it's hard to tell who's actually from south Dublin these days], vapid young things had a lengthy conversation about how the colour of one of the pink pens was "totally amazing", and how they would "sooooo" wear that colour if it were in a nailpolish, eyeshadow or lipstick.

    OMG BFF LOL!

That sounds comparatively pleasurable compared to what I had to listen to on the bus of the way home. Here are some highlights:

1: How much do you pay for your tan?
    2: 20 euro, but that's cause we're regulars
1: Cause like my regular spray-on is usually grand, but I wanna be like BLACK for the Debs.

1: Like who the hell would pay more than a euro for the bus?? Like its the bus.

1: You know how much a month ticket for the bus is?
    2: How much?
1: 75 ****ing euros. Like, 75 ****ing euros.
2: Yeah you can use it as much as you want though.
    1: 75 ****ing euros.
2: Yeah that is a lot.
    1: LIKE. 75. ****ing. Euros.
2: Yeah, it should be 50.
    1: It should be 5.

To make it worse, this was all shouted across the bus as they spread themselves out on opposite seats. When the bus filled up, they didn't even have the common courtesy to move an inch. People came down looking for seats and stood there awkwardly waiting for one of these retards to move, then gave up and went back downstairs.

I have to agree with the anti-bus sentiments though.

In the Berkeley library?? How are they 24hr when the library has limited opening hours?

Anyway, are they just when you go in the door or where are they?

There's a computer room hidden behind the Berkeley library (not within the building - it's actually part of the Ussher library building but you can't get into it from there) You have to swipe in with your card.

I'll have to search for it tomorrow. Thanks

Lovely place. The plushness/library atmosphere/natural light of the Ussher, combined with computers. I barely left the place the week running up to schols.

The Ussher on dark evenings just makes me want to sleep because of the colour scheme, the plushness, the slowsteady hum of computers... I'm yawning just thinking about it.

Vista is not being installed. An updated XP image is being reinstalled.

Well at least one computer is running Vista in there. The one with the 4:3 monitor. Anyway, why are they bothering to install XP again? They have access to 7 RTM...

At least two had it yesterday. I think one that had it was running xp today though..

It is being reimaged with XP.

PC's are not good enough to run Win7, some are still single core P4's. Some of the newer C2D's might be running Win7.

They have nVidia 6150LE integrated graphics. Don't know about the harddrives. Anyway, multi-cores aren't used in games that much.

No. SCSI (pronounced scuzzy) hd's are used in server end computers and not gaming desktops. :)

Yeah that bugs the hell out of me when I go onto a supposedly better functioning machine, when instead I'm greeted with stuff like PDF files acting even more funky than normal, the screen with a windows-set resolution our family PC from '98 had and a log out button which is sometimes the only option you see in the start menu, or sometimes in its normal place with the main power button present! Resulting in the East End computers being full of switched off machines.

Switched off can mean a good thing (especially if it was done when the rooms were closed) but in TCD it usually indicates the machine is broken...

I have a small exe in my file storage that lets me change the resolution. Hang on a sec and I'll upload it.
