    Hi guys,

i just have a quick question, nearly a year ago I witnessed a fight and gave a statement to the garda in the station. Today I got a letter to say I have to go to court as I may be used as a witness. I have a 2 week trip book at the same time. What will happen if I don't go to court. Like there only giving me 8 days notice about it. To be honest I don't particularly want to do it. When I gave the statement the officer said I wouldn't have to go to court as I gave a written statement.

I think you'll find that it's not a letter, it's more than likely a summons, if you don't turn up, the judge can issue a warrant for your arrest. However if you contact the Garda named on the summons, and explain your situation they might excuse you from turning up.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yh it says I have to attend the court but that I might be used as a witness. I did ring the station but the Garda is off for the next few days. So I was trying to see what my options are as I don't want to be worrying about this for the next few days. I'm actually a bit annoyed like the Garda said I wouldn't need to go to court he just needed a statement. The 9 months later I get this with only 8 days notice.
