well, done my first longish spin there at the weekend, I know it aint much in comparison to the spins and climbs a lot of you do, but I was pleased enough!

Took the ol' specialized globe hybrid down to wexford on that welcome home charity spin and think it got me hooked now, starting to save for a decent bike to get out more!

managed the 132kms in 5hr and 40mins (over 6hours including the lunch stop..), but I skipped one of the larger climbs (calary hill, on the way to roundwood) so feel a little dissapointed..

leared a few things, cycling is much easier in groups, (and slipstreaming does work!). nutrition makes a difference! I would alway run out of steam before by not eating correctly! and gloves seem to be important, as I cannot yet feel my left hand small fingers' fiingertip...

Anyway, what events can I do in the meantime? (while saving for a decent bike) I picked this charity cycle as it would be full of newbie types, but would like to keep it up..

Congrats on the long spin. Pedalling the bike is only half of it. A good rule of thumb, what you eat in the first hour of cycling is fuel for the second hour.

Unfortunately, the cycling season is drawing to a close in regards events. The autumn/winter is for keeping the fitness up and legs ticking over. All events tend to start in early Feb. again. In the meantime, get out as much as you can with club members for long rides. Stay in a group and learn cycling etiquette.

Fair play to you, nothing shabby about the distance or the time.

I do know of one more cycle coming up but I don't have the full details, it's in Castlecomer on the 18th of October and it'll be around 100kms, I'll probably do a thread for it as it's some of the lads I know involved.

thought this was the case, was hoping to see if I could squeeze something in, but at least by next year I will (hopefully) have a decent bike..

cheers, well, didnt exactly set the world on fire, but I was pleased enough (although regret cheating a little and getting a bus up the hill.. I have clibled it before so I am counting that!!

More impressive was my m8 who done it all on a cx10 (one of halfords finest...!)!!
