For those of a certain age, I wonder what your memories are of the showband scene. Which were your favourite bands and which gigs enabled you to 'pull.' Come on back and share your views

Here is another thread a flagged up a couple of weeks ago but have been surprised that no one seems to admit to having followed the showbands in their heyday.

C'mon who can remember Brendan Boyer and the Royal Showband from Waterford, Dickie Rock and later Fran O'Toole and the Miami, Clipper Carlton, Larry Cunningham and the Mighty Avons? Is there anyone left alive who does?

I remember the bands, the halls and the dances. But what I am looking for is any images/photos of the equipment used by the showbands eg Hurley Crazyboxes, Phillips 120 pa amp etc

The Phillips...my old punk band used to use one of them before we graduated onto H&H . We used to call it "The Toaster" I seem to recall it was cased in rounded grey metal with push up and down faders and it got as hot as hell.

There are a few websites that list all the Show Bands...

I am trying to assist a friend who is looking for some recordings by Butch Moore and The Capitol Showband. If anyone has any ideas on how to find them I would be most grateful

All three really! He wants to put a collection together for his Mother, who was a huge fan in the 60s. CDs would be perfect, but if youtube is all that's available then these can be easily converted...

This is great - tanks! I tink he was only able to find one track so far on youtube...

I'm sure there's more there if you do a bit of digging. I'm not very up to speed on downloading audio MP4's from you tube, but a simple audio line from your PC into a digital recorder will do the trick. Might get lucky in Charity shops and the like.
