    Hi there went for an early morning (5am) walk in the Donegal area, bumped into this chap .. and had to do the need full .. excuse the mess , phone was running out of power ...

    did you have a dog on him , was the neck shot low or did you kill him with a knife.

    didnt have the dog with me neck shot was a tage low the lad that was with me did the obvious with the knife, he said thats how he always does it .. not sure id be happy with that. The shot was taken at 150yds after been eaten by midges for ages. Pettigo .. area only 2nd time up there, fantastic country.

    i was not cutting you ,it was very obvious the animal did not die to the shot,

    what cal and ammo were you using .i hope you dont say 6.5

    I do have a 6.5 but was using .243win not my rifle... still waiting for the licence to be sorted after the change over, was considering changing to .243 or .308 dont know which yet... i take it your not to keen on the 6.5 ?

    no, hate the sight of the 6.5x55, a 243 is not a cal for necking reds in the rut with .

    have to agree with jw i hate 6.5 and 243 as well seen to many deer running away i have a 308 and love it my second preferance would be 270 btw nice stag well done

    Ya I have to agree, I moved up from 243 to 308 as there are a increase in reds where i shoot.
    Nice stag all the same,would off been a nightmare if he ran off, you learn as you go on, just like all of us here.hope your buying a 308.

    Why do you hate the 6.5x5.5?
    Does shot placement have more to do with a quick kill than caliber?

    Hate 6.5 go 308 best all rounder
