Hey guys, so i crawled over to the dark side and bought myself a ps3 slim. :D, Ok so i picked up three games; Killzone 2, Uncharted, And Some motorstorm game. What else should i consider buying in your opinions? I feel like i can't trust these review sites anymore. Just to note is system/game updates meant to be downloading this slow!? This killzone 2 update is taking forever and its only 90mbs.

Get used to waiting a good while from first putting a game in til actually playing it.

    Resistance 1 and 2

Demon's Souls... best game on the PS3

    For PSN:
Flower - seriously, get it now. Blew me away when I played it first
    Pixeljunk Monsters
    Wipeout HD
    Super Stardust HD

There's many more, but start with those 4

Especially tiring when playing MGS4, has to install 3 different times if I can remember correctly, and they were a long haul too of about 20-25 mins each.

Other games to get would be:

    Batman
    LBP
    Infamous
    MGS4

and a few personal favorites off the PSN:

    Fat Princess
    Trine
Battlefield 1943 (still a big hit)
    Worms
    Wipeout HD
    Flower

If you aren't impressionable avoid MGS4. It will hurt you with disappointment.

    Ignore this man.

    O hi. :pac:

Sega Rally, nothing beats it for a quick 20 minute blast. Anyone know if the orginal game is hidden on it as a bonus? Some of the graphics in killzone 2 are horrendus IMO. The walls and tankers barely look better than PS1 textures on close inspection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 867 ✭✭✭IgsTer

Yeah make sure to get MGS.

    LittleBigPlanet also

The older first motorstorm is also a good game and id say its really cheap now too if your into driving games.

I get rather slow updates too even on my wired connection.

You have got to be kidding... Killzone 2 on a HD tv looks incredible. Easily in top five best looking games ever.

Most of the must-have games have been mentioned already, and seeing as I am not sure if you have a 360 already, I am not sure what multiplatform titles are applicable here.

Warhawk and Gran Turismo 5: Prologue are two fantastic games though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,174 ✭✭✭✭Captain Chaos

From his sig he does have a 360 and from his gamerscore he has played aload of games so I'd say all cross platform titles are covered.

Having both consoles and seeing what on offer on both first hand, if I had had just gotten a PS3 after owning a 360 for a while I go for the following.

    Killzone 2
    Uncharted
    MGS 4
    Little Big Planet

Resistance 1 and 2 are Ok but worth a look.

If you already have a 360 and played everything there is the above list is what the PS3 has to offer. imo.

Warhawk and GT5 P didn't do it for me at all but worth a try before you buy.

Sorry, can't see the sig at work. Its blocked.

In fairness though, amjon is making a moot point. Even in Crysis, if you perform a "close inspection" of some the textures, they leave a lot to be desired. Crysis Warhead for example, had horrible metal girder textures.

If you are stopping to look at the wall textures in KZ2, you obviously don't understand the point of the game.

That being said, imo, KZ2 has better graphics and mutliplayer, but Resistance 2 has a greater variety of environments, and a superior SP campaign.

For SP I'd rate Resistance 2 above KZ2

Uncharted is a very good game, sequel's out in two weeks!

If you're into horror games Siren: Blood Curse is pretty ace. Its 30e downloadable or 15e or so on ebay or shops 2nd hand. Scarier than Resident Evil 5! (which is faint praise)

He said he got it already.

Wow, thanks guys. Great feedback. Just got home form work. Considering picking up MGS4, Infamous, and Resistance 2 from this info. Gotta play through three games first. I tested out the multiplayer of killzone 2. Amazing stuff online. Is there a mic attachment for the controller btw?. Also, will i get better download rates on a wireless or wired connection. The downloads seem awful slow.

Also my psn id is: mickie_50 (add me i have no friends! :P)

You can use any bluetooth head set with the PS3, the mini keypad attachment that clips onto the controller is handy if you are sending alot of messages.

I find that PSN download speeds are just generally slower than the Xbox Live speeds. Its like they are capped seeing as its a free service and all. That just from my experience though between the two services.

If you can go wired you might get better speeds. I don't know if it's my ISP (NTL, 10mb) or just how I have my network set up, but my download speed is great. I can usually download a gigabyte from the PSN in about half an hour. I would recommend that if you're connected via wireless you need to have your PS3 as 'NAT type 2' (you can check this in internet connection test in the settings menu on the PS3), put the PS3 in the DMZ of your router or open specific ports.

I have the official Sony PS3 bluetooth headset, it's the best one I think, you should be able to find it for about €25 online, otherwise it's about €40 in GameStop. I'll add ya later for some Killzone 2. :D

I'm having serious bother trying to get a nat type 2. It also say's upnp is disabled? I have netopia router set to low, worked fine for my 360. I have tried ipsec passthrough also. Getting the same. :/

Just to note i followed this guide and still the same. http://www.pregamelobby.com/forum/sony-reviews-tips/5618-how-get-type-2-open-nat-your-ps3.html

OK nevermind figured it out. I Just opened ports 80-65535 udp/tcp for my ps3s ip address no problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 973 ✭✭✭Super Sidious

From what I gather you cant get NAT 2...

I log directly into the router using

    username:
    eircom@eircom.net
    Password:
    broadband1

so go through your set up and pick ppoe

    this will give you Nat1

You wont be able to share media with this so swop it back to Nat3 when you wanna do that... theres a few guides on the forum you can search them...

Awesome, that's how I have my network set up as well. Are you noticing any speed improvements?

Another tip for you would be to set up an American and/or Japanese/Hong Kong account for your PS3. The content is different on each store so it's worth it, especially for demos and themes that aren't available on the EU PSN Store.

Listen to the person who told you to get Warhawk.... It is a couple of years old but the Best multiplayer Game I have ever played..... I have bought about 20 titles and nothing seems to compare to it.... You can buy it for around 20 or 30 Euro and then the additional maps are about 15 euro... Well worth it about 400,000 to 800,000 online players .....:D:D:D:D

I think I might join you come christmas, its too tempting now at that price point. Even if most good games seem to be cross platform now and the install times drive me wild I can use it as a bluray player.#

Oh, and the free online play means it`ll have payed its self back in 5 years over xbox live !

While I enjoyed Resistance 2 - I much preferred the original. Resistance is still a good game - regret trading it in.

Also - and don't laugh - the Ratchet and Clank games on the PS3 are all really good fun and can be picked up cheaply 2nd hand. Just rebought tools of destruction after getting rid of it a while ago. Glad I bought it back - finishes quick but some good humour in it.

You already have the other game I would have said was a must have - Uncharted - download the demo of the new one - the multiplayer is not too bad on the demo - even if I was thrashed repeatedly.

I just completed Uncharted 1 this weekend. It was such a suprise for me. One of the best titles i played in 2 - 3 years. And a very interesting story with excellent voice acting. I can't wait for the sequel. Tried out the beta last night was loads of fun online.
