Can someone answer a question about my Smart bill?

I'm really sorry if this question is either stupid or inappropriate, I could easily be missing something obvious, but just can't figure this out...

Moved into a new house in May, got Eircom line installed (free installation offer at the time), went with Smart for the broadband. On the 24mb package that ends up at about €57 p/m.

All has been going fine. Was away for the summer abroad, but had dd for the bill which was going out at the 57 p/m rate as normal.

This month though I've gotten a bill and been charged €160 in total which are called "rental charges" on the bill, and I can't figure out that the story is with this? Why was I charged this, and is it normal? I can't remember them ever saying anything about it when I signed up (though this is where I accept that I could just have overlooked/forgotten it).

ANy clarification on this would be much appreciated? At least if I had an idea what it was for I could then talk to Smart about it....

No, that doesn't sound normal, give them a call.

Sounds like you weren't paying line rental. Last I checked, the 24M home broadband should be close to €75 when you include line rental.

Ask on Smart's forum, or give them a call.

A little bit of good timing means I actually got the paper bill through the letterbox today.

The charges as mentioned above are broken down as follows on the back of the bill

    Broadband Package Cost (fine)
    MOnthly Line Rental (fine)
"Partial Discount - Last Month" (which amounts to over 70 euro)

So it's the last bit I'm a bit confused over - does that mean I'd actually been getting undercharged? To clarify an earlier point, I'd actually been getting a little bit mixed up with my Direct debits (the figure I posted earlier was actually for my UPC). It doesn't look like I haven't been paying line rental from my previous bills, and I can't see any discount that was applied on them.

You'll need to call Smart and check.

You could check you bank statements or online banking to see if they took out previous bills and yes 24mb/s BB is €71.97 including line rental per month. You can also find your previous Smart bills online at their website.
