    First time thread here

Im 26 years old and unemployed and have been for the last 11 months
Where do I begin....I come from a middle class backround and went to one of the best schools in the country. School was never my thing and it never seemed to work out for me in terms of study. When I finished school I joined the workforce straight away and it was a great sucess for me. It was a good job and I really enjoyed it. However at the end of 2006 my world came crashing down and I fell into clinical depression and had to be treated in hospital for it. The reasons for this were very real and I believe it was only a matter of time before something like that was going to happen to me. I had to quit my job as it was impossible to carry on. 2007 was was more or less a right off and eventually I managed to get myself back to a normal and decided at to go travelling with my best friend around the world. We travelled across the USA and on to Australia and where we stayed for almost a year. It was a great sucess and I enjoyed it very much got myself a job over there and it was a great boost for the system. I returned just before xmas last year to dark old Ireland in the middle of the economic downturn.
Things have been ok this year despite the fact that I have no job.
My father is freaking out because I basically have no real prospects and he insisted that I sign up for a college course which I did but basically I have no interest and point black do not want to do it. Basically said I would do it to get him off my back. I have yet to tell him that I am not going to start it. I am much better in a working role but I will not work just anywhere because I have certain standards. I just cannot get my head around study.
Im really getting worried as I have been out of work for so long.
I have great friends and people around around me but I really dont know what I want to do with my life of career. I dont know what route to take and I know that most of you will say do the course but it is just something im not interested in doing.
    Any advice?

What sort of work were you doing before? Have you tried chatting to your dad and told him what you've told us? Or gone looking at other courses that are available that might suit you better?

The only advice I can give is don't go into a course if you are not prepared to work hard at it. If you don't want to do it, don't do it.

Most 20 something year olds are in a similar situation.

Were all trying to carve out a career path for ourselves - with varying degrees of success.

As regards the studying - I'd only be inclined to do college if there was a definite career path to follow.

Not much advice in that - ultimately, dont strees too much over it.
