Is `V` in trouble?

Nah, I don't think its in trouble. The gap between each section has just been extended. Alot will hinge on the viewer figures for the first 4 episodes. If it tanks, then its dead.

Seriously annoyed by these big "breaks" in series now... more likely now then ever to wait and get it from my cousins in america all at once.

    DeV.

Dunno, have a feeling this show will start strong but tank quickly.

Battlestar Galactica started with a mini series (4 episodes long) and then got a 13 episode first season.

I'd say it'll give them time to work out if its worth continuing.

I really hope not. Being a miniseries they surely should be able to nail the pacing from the start as they know exactly how many episodes they have.

Could it be possible that, in fact, they might be considering extending it into something beyond the miniseries, and want to see if it might be worth it?

but sci-fi made battlestar and they seem to require only 2 million viewers to justify making a series, i alway wonder how shows on sci-fi, sorry, syfy, are good and have great special effect, like stargate and battlestar had great effects, and good story telling, then you have a show like jericho, which had a great story but had little to no effects, but costs twice as much to make, and end up being canceled in two seasons,

its looks like there trying to kill the show before it even starts, shows like this should be made by networks like syfy, if you get syfy to make your show, your almost guaranteed 4 years to tell the story, now you need to have 3-5 stories going at once, there puting what used to be 3 seasons of stories into one, there runing some potentially good shows doing this,

best example i can think of is dollhouse, season one you had the main caracter going on missions and almost imediately we have the FBI in on it, and we find out early that shes different, you had the alpha story imediately also, why cant you start with her and other dolls doing encounters for say 10 eps, then maybe make us aware of alpha, have him show up at the end, and have him on the run with echo for the first 4-5 eps of season 2, and when echo is returning to the house she encounters ballard, who then starts investigating the house, but theres 100 odd dolls and we only know 4 or 5 of them, hugh potential for story telling wasted, you could go 3-4 seasons without even bringing goverment agencies into it, theres that much potential,

plus with the internet and sky plus or tivo in america its impossible to get the rating these networks are looking for, there rating system is simply not good enough, shows that have 50 million fans are getting rating of 8 million in america, and then get cancelled, there making millions of dollars from the shows yet they cancel them cause only 8 million people in one country with a ****e ratings system watch the show????

This is starting to change, but very, very slowly. Dollhouse was apparently saved on the strength of its' PVR (Tivo, etc) viewings and iTunes sales compared to the poor "live" ratings. Still, the major networks don't take into consideration at all things like Hulu, their own streaming sites, foreign markets (and potential syndication deals), etc so it's still the case that if a show tanks in the crap Nielsen ratings, it'll get canned.

As for "V", I don't trust ABC one bit. The whole "this was the original plan all along" does stink of PR bull and it is very likely that they will kill the show by doing this. BSG was designed as a miniseries with a full series potential in mind, but the miniseries itself was very well executed and almost self-contained. I very much doubt that'll happen here but I hope I'm wrong - I really want "V" to succeed.

I knew it was in trouble when i saw it advertised it'd be shown over here on TV3.
It's going to go the same way as Bionic Woman.

I still haven't got over the fact Dollhouse got saved in place of Terminator SCC.
I'd expect the first 4 episodes (mini series) to play out like the BSG mini series. It'll have its own story arc but at the end it'll leave a nice little cliff hanger like the reveal of a cylon.

I was just thinking, Maybe the time gap in between is to allow the lead actress (Juliette in Lost) to finish her role on Lost? And for any of the other cast to finish up any commitments.

if the stidios arent going to give these shows a chance why bother going to all the trouble of recreating them, surely it cost more to get the rights to remake a show than to create an original show,

im really looking forward to V, i remeber it even though i was born the year it was made, i remeber seeing a rerun when i was about 12 and thought it was brilliant, i hope the show is given a genuine chanche to succeed,

how many remakes is that the last few years, we had battlestar which i think started it all, and due to its hugh success on the sci-fi chanel (which as i said only requires 2 mill viewers to be considered a success), bionic woman, knight rider, doctor who, 90210, melrose place, and there making a dallas film, an A team film, theres apparently talks of M*A*S*H, all based on one show being a success, whats next, airwolf, McGuyver,

out of all the shows listed there, V i would consider my favourtite original show, battlstar remake was excellent and is the benchmark to follow, bionic woman was ok and seemed to be heading somewhere, knight rider was pants (just like the original), doctor who is more childish than eureka, and 90210 and melrose place is for all the new tweens,

knowing the networks if this doesnt get 15 million for the premier its a goner, and even if it does get 15 its probably still a goner,

i dunno if they think if they follow battlestars lead the show will copy battlestar, do they know battlestar only had 3-4 million viewers in its final season, or throughout its 4 seasons

doubth there gonna stall a show so she can finnish another show, it would cost a fortune to have the sets laying idle, granted im happy if it means we have juliette next year on lost, but i highly doubth thats the reason there doin this,

    Um, actually....

    http://www.cinematical.com/2009/03/16/macgyver-heads-for-the-big-screen/
The Hollywood Reporter posts that New Line is reviving MacGyver and throwing him into the big-budget action of a feature film. There's no writer or director attached yet, but this is looking to be a De Laurentiis love child -- Raffaella is producing with Martha (and series creator Lee Zlotoff), while Dino steps in as executive producer.

Airwolf is probably around the corner somewhere.... it seems everything from the 70s and 80s will be remade in TV show or movie form at this stage...

GSPfan, I realise the BSG miniseries aired years ago, but as I haven't gotten around to watching it yet, it would've been nice to not have the end ruined on me. Maybe you could go back and add spoiler tags to your post, where necessary, so that people coming to view this thread later, won't be spoiled also.

Ruined, really? I apologise. I've edited it.

    Star Wars spoiler...
    Darth Vader is Lukes father.
