I want to start playing poker but I have a few questions first. There is many variantions of poker but what is the main poker game? Is it Texas Hold'em? Also can someone recommend a good site to play poker free without having to download it and help you learn (not one of those that deals you brilliant cards so you'll sign up to their website!)

Yes hold'em is the most popular and is the game most people start with.
One site I'm aware of that you can play (for free) without downloading is Sky Poker.

paddypowerpoker.com also have a client working with a internet browsers (firefox etc) and they have play money.

Specifically, the game you want is No Limit Texas Holdem (there are also games called Limit Texas Holdem, Pot Limit Texas Holdem etc, but No Limit is the one you want....this is most popular poker game, the one you will have seen on TV and is, in most people's opinion, the most interesting/fun version of poker to play).
