Gambling & Match Fixing

On the BBC today is a story about Uefa investigating 40 cases of suspected match-fixing.

I have mixed feelings about match fixing.

On the one hand, it's terrible for sport and if I had money on a game which was fixed, I'd be sickened to lose... however on the other hand I'd like to know what games are fixed so I can put money on the result. :pac: :pac:

I reckon match fixing is a lot more common than we realise. For example, if a crappy team know they are going to lose, why not make sure they lose both at half time and full-time? It's easy, free money.

Gotta say it makes me worry about betting on the smaller games.

Suprised no mention of the greek 2nd division from last year at all, all you needed to do was look up the betfair forum on a monday morning and look for "weekly greek fix", "Monday Money-Maker" etc.

Some of the clubs are in such a bad financial situation that they actively fix a match to go out and win as much as possible to keep themselves going. Again, unfortunate if your on the wrong side.

Wouldnt disagree with you there. Also wouldnt say its as far from home as you think.

Whatever you bet on, always make it your business to know what is going on, think of buying a car or renting a hooker :pac:. Would you take one with a leaking radiator??

Sports like horse and dog racing are riddled with it. Its impossible to catch anyone if they do things correctly.

Anything that involves people and money will lead to corruption in some shape or form.

How difficult would it be to buy a dog, enter it in a race, and bet heavily on it losing cause you've trained it to be crap?

    Very easy I would imagine.

    Its simple alright.

In horse racing theres lots of things you could do. Even if the horse is good you could just tell the jockey not to win.

What if there is a big bet on the eventual winner?

Maybe match fixing is common. But how can you tell if you are not involved. It wont make it any easier or harder to make a profit

Can't beat matches when they're rumoured to be fixed, betting was supposely stopped on Dundalk-v-Galway as mountains of money being placed on Galway, needless to say Galway lost 3-0.:D

    huh?

Stopping a horse doesn't really affect the winner per say.
