Does anyone know what is required to get Outlook working with DCU Gmail?

    Any ideas appreciated?

    James

This appears to be coming up a lot.

You have to follow the same setup as you would for Gmail.
The information for that is here.
Choose wither you want to use POP or IMAP and then follow the instructions for your client.

If you have changed your password you will have to use your original password as given to you at registration.

    Thanks.

Are both in / out servers - mail.dcu.ie

Also is user id - email address?

    What port do you use?

For some reason I am being bounced.

Ok your email address is the address that comes up in the top right hand corner when you log into DCU Apps gmail account. It is not repeat not you user id.

Also you have to use Google's inbound and outbound mail servers as DCU Apps is only a Google Apps system and does not use DCU's mail servers. If you are trying to use DCU's mail servers any emails will fail.
Use the mail servers in the setup information I posted previously. The port you should use is also in this information.

Sorry - does not work, spent the last few hours trying it out without success.

    Any ideas?

To get email it's "pop.gmail.com" or "imap.gmail.com" depending on whether you use Pop or IMAP.
    To send email it's "smtp.gmail.com".
Not the DCU servers, google's ones.
You're username is your FULL email address, not the username you're given (as in, it's john.doe2@mail.dcu.ie instead of doej2).
Password is the same as the password for your portal page.

And make sure to follow the advice on those pages about setting the right ports and enabling SSL or whatever if necessary.

Also, you may not have IMAP or POP enabled. Log into your account in a web browser, go to the settings in top right and make sure to find and turn on POP and/or IMAP. Only one of them is enabled by default I think

    No joy.

Also which password - portal password or password as issued at registration. I have tried both and neither work. Seems to be a slight disconnect in thread above??

    Thanks!!

Well unless you have changed it both of them should be the same. Regardless you have to use the password issued to you at registration as the password for POP and IMAP access is stored on Googles servers and so is not changed if you change your password.

If you cannot get it working could you take a screen capture of each of the configuration pages so I can see exactly what you have entered.

Thanks All. Got there in the end.

One final question - I was unable to send emails from my gmail account from Outlook when I was behind the DCU Proxy server - I was using Eircom as my SMTP - mail1.eircom.net.

Will I have any problems sending when using google as my SMTP when on the campus??

Well I cannot be sure of that however I would guess that you wont have any problems.

i too had initial trouble with setting up the accounts in outlook so I tried the Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook and I have to say its working very well. I'm finished in DCU now but I would have loved being able to integrate my outlook calendar and a DCU apps calendar. You first years don't know how lucky you have... (unless of course fees come back in :P)

Yes. You'll need to change it to mail.dcu.ie or something similar because you won't be able to connect to Eircom from inside the campus.

That's because you need to access everything from DCUs proxy. If there's an option for your mail client (Outlook) to set a SOCKS proxy then set it to proxy.dcu.ie, port 1080.

If not look into sockscap, from what I see it can force any Windows app to use a SOCKS proxy even if the app itself doesn't support it (for similar results on Linux I've been using tsocks with success)

I tried to get Google Apps Synch to work. What user id and password do I use and do we have as students have access?
