What happens Dunne when if he loses? Is it the end or will he do a Ricky Hatton and keep boxing till he dies in the ring?

I don't see this as unthinkable at all. Remember, he did get ko'd by Kiko in one rd. This shouldn't be a case of, "Oh my god, Dunne lost."

If he loses tomorrow then there is not much left really. He won the title, and lost it. That's the worst case for Dunne

I know its very possible hel get his head kicked punched in! But what happens, another fight and see what happens or retire? If he retires, how will he pay the bills in Neilstown? Dole?

Jesus, you're a loser  Does it grate on you that Dunne is a talented athlete competing at the highest level and you are ... on the Dole yourself perhaps?

On RTE 2 yeah! Im sure there would be a slot for him on the National amateur boxing on RTE and the Olympics next year. But what else is out there for him?
How much will this fight earn him? Win or lose? Its a tough business is boxing. A boxer going out knowing that if he doesnt win, his career is over! Dont know many sports that have that. Whatever happens hes done Irland proud, could never see him winning a World after Kiko Martinez disaster.

Im a winner baby!;) I have the utmost respect for Bernard Dunne. He showed guts against Caballero and hes a nice guy as I have said. But, he can be too sure of himself sometimes and hes lucky he gets to fight in his hometown all the time!
Fingers crossed he beats this little fela! He will then be, a true class act and worthy of all the hype.:)

Im sick of Dunne knockers like yourself, he is a class act already. You say you have the utmost respect for him, and then you say he is lucky.
Nothing lucky about the last win, back from the very depths.

D'ont know why this thread is still going.

He desrved to beat CORDOBA! What I meant was, hes forunate to be able to fight in Dublin with 8 thousand Dubs screaming him on. Still, he had to knock the man out and he did! People have a habit of getting on the bandwagon and then after a bad result putting him down. Win or lose hes done Ireland proud, hes won a World Championship and he is superb. If he beats this fela(which I doubt) then WOW defending ur title to to a big hitter like this he is a class act. Its mandatory isnt it and I dont think Dunne would of likened to defend his title against this fela:( Would of gone for an easy win against another scrawny man.

I hate these threads because people tend to point to them months later and say I told you so - however, of course there is a chance of defeat

if BD wins - boxingwise a major fight would be very possible, vasquez or caballero, or Molitor who would IMO be perfect for Bernard

if he loses - a rematch with martinez would pull a good crowd in, or Munroe could do with a good hiding :) i would pay to see the rubbish man swollow leather

This thread makes me laugh. Everyone I spoke to during the week (casual boxing fans) have said Dunne does not seem confident.

If he speaks with some confidence he is branded big headed...typcial Irish view point

If Bens like I expect him to do he will move on to bigger and better things. I he lost, I guess that would depends on the manner of the loss.

What gives this fight any more credability than the Cordoba fight. Both guys are on the same level ??

Last time I checked, BD was on the 'panel' for Dublin Fire Brigade. I heard last year that his turn had come for recruit training but of course he was still fighting then.

He may still be on this panel or he may have given up this idea altogether but there is a possibility that if he hangs up the gloves that he could become a Dublin Firefighter.

I like this post. I like the thoughts of him fighting Martinez again or Munroe if worst case scenario he lost!
And Id also like to see him fight one of the big felas, Caballero or Molitor if he won!

He is worthy of all the hype already. The guy puts on a great show, he is very exciting to watch.

This comment in bold is so ridiculous. Fighters have to totally believe in themselves or they will never amount to anything. The very best were always saying that they were going to beat their opponent.

And just to add, Bernard is also a really nice guy and comes across so well in the media that it just adds to his popularity.

You might have noticed that at no point in my statement did I say that Bernard Dunne is the best boxer in the world or anything like that. This doesn't mean he doesn't deserve all he has got out of boxing so far in his career.

Just to add, I thought he would lose to Cordoba and I was wrong. I'm still not convinced that his chin and stamina are good enough but he does seem to have improved since his shock first round loss to Kiko.

Excellent post. If anything I think Dunne is fairly modest about his achievements.

I think the problem is that these casual arm chair fans hear Ben being interviewed and think he is cocky when in fact he is lamb compared to most fighters.

I agree with everything u said..except, I just think, after all those wins he was going into the Martinez fight over confident, he got complacent and was beaten. Theres a difference to being confident and over confident and thinking ur better than u are. In a couple of fights he was showboating abit(waving the hand in the air etc)..They would be one of few criticisms of Bernard. No doubting hes a gent and Ireland should be proud. I hope he whacks Munroe out of it someday!:P

Worthy of what hype? The Irish hype Dunne, that is it.
Again, anything that seems 'negative' and folks are jumping
    in and almost crying.

He's top ten rated, but not world champion in the true sense . That irk people?

He's about number 8 in the world with boxrec and eastside.
    Number 5 with Ring

Well, the true champion/champions are Lopez
and Caballero, and Vasquez/Marquez may have a real claim.

For fighting PK he does deserve credit because the guy
is a mandatory and rated higher. I guess that is why
boxing stinks a lot, when the challenger is rated higher than
    the 'champion.'

Out of the top ten fighters, Bernard has beaten one, Cordoba,
who is now outside the top ten

C'mon, lets not lose the run here. Bernard is a good boxer, but should he lose he is back to square one really. I would like to see Dunne avenge the Kiko defeat before he retires, but something tells me he won't get in the ring with Kiko again, despite him having the ability to do the job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,309 ✭✭✭T-K-O

Champions, the true champion, l4l best....who make those decisions. Everyone has a different view.

I've been telling anyone who will listen, that Dunne is a solid top 10 fighter, who would need everything to go his way in order to beat the elite guys at the weight.

The only people who think Dunne is the best in the division are guys who simply do not have a clue. The same guys will not watch boxing after Dunne retires... fair weather fans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,549 ✭✭✭✭cowzerp

He could rematch Martinez or fight Munroe, both would interest people then retire and get into boxing commentary on RTE, i think he's very good at it and talks real sense and not just dribble like magee or patronising like Dowling..

very diffucult to even get a fight for it - would either have to wait for an offer to fight for the title or spend 1 or 2 hard tough years fighting to get to mandatory challenger

whatever happens tonight PK has earned the right to fight for this title (the hard way) so good luck to him

    cmon The Mighty Dunne!!
