Lady owner, Clean car

    Bo||ocks to it.

I hate seeing this when a car is for sale!
It's one thing to statistically say they're less a risk in terms of insurance but what does being a lady have to do with the sale of a car?

I've experienced many women who have given me lifts etc and torture the clutch etc. On the flip side I have too with men but mainly women holding on the bite or just general faults.

If I am to stereotype just a little I'd say a man would be more keen to look after his car (remembers to service regularly etc) but this is a general statement. I'd imagine there are women out there conscious of their engines too but it goes without saying on a gender case, men would be majority here.

    So.
What's the big deal about a Lady owning a Car? When I was in the market for a car I noted that a lot of these "lady owner" cars had a lot of minor- moderate scratches. While a lot of "just cars" were less damaged.

Is this just the world being sexist again and essentially saying don't buy a car off the gender who are the dominant ones in the sector?

I wouldnt buy off a lady owner. Women are to servicing cars as men are to defrosting and cleaning the refirgerator.

= oil never changed, cyls/intake/valves coked up. Although to be fair, to most people I know the car is something incidental, a way to get from A to B and not something they really pay that much attention to.

Oddly it reminds me of the "women and children" bit they say on the news when people get blown to pieces, as if somehow a man's life is worth less.

I think the idea came from the fact that women used to be considered periodic drivers, only tootling down to the shops. Also that they were careful and considerate drivers and the state of the car would reflect this.

Whatever about that being true at some stage, its a load of BS now. I reckon the worst thing anyone could do it buy a second hand Micra that was owned by a woman.

Men, in general, have more interest in cars and as such the state of the car will reflect this. Yes, certain men will push a car more than a women would, but at least its not through improper driving.

If ever there was an example of wasted bandwidth, this thread is it.

My sister bought a car in April that was previously owned by a lady owner and it was a big mistake. In the end (actually month and half later) car needed new engine, new clutch, new driveshaft plus few other minor bits and pieces.

I recall seeing an add in the 'damaged repairable' section of the Buy and Sell one time which was described as having had a front end smash and one careful lady owner

Also a bit pointless to mention lady owner for a six year old car with three previous owners for example. Regardless of your point of view on whether or not lady owned cars are better buys or not, as the case may be chances are kinda slim that all previous drivers were ladies.

Another gripe of mine is describing a car with cheap aftermarket alloy wheels or a crude plastic bodykit as being in "mint condition". My understanding of the phrase mint condition is, "as is" when left the factory so why describe such a car as being in mint condition?

I am of the opinion that the OP has made a very valid observation and have seen threads here that would be way higher up the pecking order when it comes to wasting bandwidth.

If you don't like it, don't post, simple as.

Well seeing how many males / boy racers drive their first cars (usally girly ones) around the place (VW Polos and the like), a Lady owner is preferable. Not that there aren't girl racers, but much fewer in percentage terms.

And stating Lady owner is more likely to appeal to other (potential) female buyers, so it isn't without it's uses. Rightly or wrongly perceptions can count for quite a lot.
