    them helping hands are handy, but not essential... i've managed most of my time without them, but if they make life easier why not, they might save a few burns on the finger tips too!!!

    they are also good if your gluing something and need to hold it in position.

    Yeah I deffo think I need one - just wondering if the ones on ebay are rubbishy plastic. The seem to be quite cheaply priced.

    just make sure the ones you get for soldering aren't plastic ;)

    i'd say they'd be fine as long as they are metal...

    i actually bought mine in a local pound shop for a fiver. works fine when i actually use it. normally dont bother. handy when soldering headphone jacks though. what gets more use is a solder station I got in lidl a while ago. the iron was underpowered muck but the station had a stand, damp pad and two flexy arms with gator clips for holdign the work. soldering iron is already in it and you almost never actually need the magnifying glass on the stand alone yoke

    I used use a crocodile clip bolted to a 2x4, worked great. :D
