Hopefully this is the right place to post my query, if not then apologies.

There seems to be a problem with the central locking on our Passat. Thought it might be the battery in the remote, but tried the spare one and it wouldn't unlock it either. Then looked at the light on the key and this is still lighting up, so they seem to be fine.
We're using the key right now but where would start looking to see where the problem is? Don't want spend a fortune in a VW garage if its just a loose wire or something simple.

    Thanks.

    What year is the car?
Try locking the car using the key and then use the key in the boot lock. Common on older passats.

It might need reprogramming its easy enough on those Passats.

    Switch ignition ON.
Insert key to be programmed into driver's door lock.
    Lock vehicle manually.
    Press lock or unlock button.
    Wait at least 1 second.
Press lock or unlock button again.
Vehicle horn sounds to indicate correct programming.
Keys can also be programmed using diagnostic equipment.

have a look below the wipers.theres a panel there that lifts off to change the pollen filter.make sure that the drains from that panel are clear,They tend to block up with leaves. Then the water runs down through the pollen filter into the body control module. Which controls the interior lights and central locking and a few other bits too. My advise would be get it looked at sooner rather than later,If there's only a bit of corrosion it can be cleaned and the cause fixed. If left aloan the bcm will die costing you over 800 euros!!!!!
