I'm just wondering if anyone has used this company for broadband access?

    http://abbtelecom.ie/

They seem to know what they're doing, any comments? latency/uptime etc?

They were called NBB a year ago before NBB went bust and cut everybody off .

I sincerely wish I'd stumbled upon this forum BEFORE I signed up with ABB. I took out a 1MB package with ABB in good faith, and found (being very gullible) that, yes, I could get a 1MB download speed, but only by waiting until all the rest of ye were gone to bed, literally 1AM. During the day when of course I needed it most, it used to stutter and fart and rarely showed better than 300K from 9AM - 11PM.

This is because ABB are trying to cram too many users into the bandwidth they are buying from SES Astra. They rely on hooking people into agreements with them knowing they won't find out how bad the service is until too late.

When I complained I got fobbed off with a wide range of explanations about "fair usage" and "exceeding my quota" (1GB per month) which proved to be baseless.

Now for the good bit: the service stopped completely whenever it rained! . . . this being Ireland, I got great practice at yawning, making coffee, and doing little jobs until the weather improved. The PC was never defragged so much in its life. When I remonstrated about the lack of service, I was told that Cork was near to the edge of "the footprint" and I'd have to have a BIGGER dish . . . we already had a 1m dish, this didn't seem a great option, given the windy weather we get.

Eventually Eircom came good and we got a 1MB service from them for 1/3rd the price and no hassles with speed, 1MB rock solid. Plus a free wifi network/router. The downside was we had now paid ABB €365 for gear they wouldn't take back and which is no use to anyone but them . . . dog in a manger?

The moral of the story is, unless you're suicidal on dialup, wait for Eircom . . .they will get there one day.

PS I do NOT work for Eircom!!!

Which crowd from England took over ABB, people are heartily sick of serially insolvent satellite midband providers running off with their money. we have had nbb, e3, ildana, aramiska , mediasat, abb in the past few years alone.

Is it still astra2connect and will the gear and dish work with the new provider ??

What happened to the ex NBB guys who originally ran off to set up ABB with the NBB customer list?

Satellite Broadbands footprint is getting smaller and smaller every day in Ireland with the coverage growth in the different types of wireless broadband providers.
I think they are just loosing a fighting battle.
