That's brilliant news, I always liked 4OD, It's even better now you can watch directly on the website. Fair play to Channel 4 for sorting it out.

If C4 can do it, surley BBC can aswell?

Licence fee payers in the UK would be annoyed, and rightly too imo. If RTÉ opened up the RTÉ Player worldwide for free I would be annoyed

    why?
i remember being abroad one time and wanting to watch an ireland match and going to internet cafe to watch it online to discover i couldnt and seeing as tv's there didnt have rte(obvioulsy) it was very dissapointing. pretty annoying for people paying for their license and not being able to see it just because they arent in ireland at the time.

    The missus will be impressed.

I don't know how they've got around the whole rights issues though.

They will only have the rights to show it within Ireland. That's why you could not watch a match abroad.

Have a look around this website and you will see that there has been questions about its availability.

yeah i realise that but was just wondering why you would be annoyed if rte online was available anywhere in the world?

How so? BBC's 'excuse' is that their content should only be available to the BBC licence payers who subsidise it, and you can only buy a BBC licence in the UK, therefore BBC iPlayer is only available in the UK. None of that is applicable to Channel 4.

Bandwidth was the excuse used that i read, and besides that we've enjoyed getting BBC 1,2 for fourty years or so & 3,4 cbbc, cbeebies,News, all digital radio channels, have access to BBC news online & radio for the last 5 or more and yet i don't have a "BBC licence" for that but i still get it and i don't hear people who have subsidized it or the BBC up in arms over that.

My point is like channel 4 have shown & embraced we already get C4 and all its other related channels like the bbc but with 4oD too and yet with no bandwidth or any other little issues if they cant show it then its not available 4oD simple as that so no point in holding back the online content on Beeb in my opinion if theres a market for it with a possible revenue too i.e paid for a HD i player or just free it with free low band etc etc..just a thought :D

You receive those channels because of your geographical location. The BBC aren't intentionally providing them to you. Sky and cable made deals with BBC Worldwide to include some BBC channels on their EPG's but this does not mean that their content is being aimed at you.

If you would like to see UK licence payers give out about Johnny foreigner watching their channels for free take a trip over to Digital Spy.

Yawn yourself. I was not starting an arguement. Bothered is what I read in post number 24 of this thread.

Some of the American shows won't play (I'd assume there's a license clash with RTE and TV3) but all the channel 4 stuff works fine for me, I'm watching it right now.

See they're on about a HD service too, I tried it but didn't really see any difference?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 243 ✭✭calum

4od.com has been working fine for me (and still is today), with Vodafone as my ISP...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 50 ✭✭upsilon

I have tryed some c4 own prog like secret millionaire to make sure it is not a question of right. not working.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

Most of the content works for me, but there are some US shows that won't work like How I Met Your Mother will work but Southland won't.
