So just did my open water in honduras and want a job as a diver. I'm 22 and working in a finance job at home and want out. What job could I get as a diver ,how does one get into commercial diving, I hear its good money but tough. How about the army or sea rescue.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

    cheers

Google commercial diver courses UK. Then South Africa.

Then G. commercial diver forums on WWW.

    Loadsa info out there.

It's not a glam job by any means. Locally, get into civil engineering diving and you will not see your hand before your face.

Honduran diving is nice, viz etc., but faaaaarrrr removed from the reality of underwater work.

BTW Fort William prob has better credo than S.Africa when it comes to getting the job.
Have dived with some SA "qualified" commercials and I wouldn't trust them beyond 10m.

afaik you would also need a mechanical skill like welding etc. Great money to be made but often at the expense of your health in your golden years. saturation diving etc over such a sustained period of time has to cause some problems imho. also consider what will you do as a hobby now that you dive full time. Divers only do recovery not rescue and join the navy for navy diving again I am sure there are good points but most may be feeling your way around a boats hull in zero vis in a mucky harbour searching for cavity for drugs etc. Try and contact the navy divers if you cant get any info I can get a number for a guy.

doesnt pay very well but its a nice lifestyle....

    http://www.scubadivewest.com/index.php/Surface-Supplied-Air-Diving-Specialty/PADI-Surface-Supplied-Air-Diving-Specialty.html

For info on commercial diver training and a chance to dive in commercial "hard-hat" diving gear.

Hey i am commercial diver offshore and you can ask me any questions you have,it can be the easy street,i have spent months offshore and have'nt even gotten my hair wet and spent 40 days in saturation diving everyday in mudd up to my waist not being able to see more than half a foot in front of my face,it is far removed from scuba in honduras, message me if you have any questions.Although the money is great, sometimes you really earn every penny of it
