    I have a hybrid bike with mountain bike style handlebars, these have been fine up to now but I find that now I cycle for longer and longer distances they are hard on the wrists. Would dropbars help and what would be involved in changing them. ie. gear shifters/ brake leavers what else needs to be changed

    Im sure someone else will advise better, but how good a hyrid do you have, and do you plan on doing the work yourself?

    For a cheaper bike and getting someone oto do it, it may not be worth the cash and instead sell up and buy a road bike, particularly if you can avail of bike to work;

    Gear/brake levers and the bars themselves. That's all.

    OTOH, I added a set of aerobars to my hybrid. See This post in this thread for a discussion on the subject.

    heliguy, do you have Ergo bars ends, like this?

    They're supposed to help a lot, and are a fraction of the price of doing a drop bar conversion.

    You might also consider chopping your bars down a bit to slightly wider than shoulder width.

    I put bar ends, similar to what Lumen suggest on my hybrid, helps a lot alright, especially when you have to get off your arse.

    I'm interested in this also.

    I've got a junker hybrid that I commute on. I bought[stupidly] drops to fit to it, without measuring. The hybrid L-shaped stem(w/ expanding bolt) is far too small. Anywhere I can get a stem with a larger mount? I think its 45mm I need. All the stems I've found I designed for the other headset(think my terminology is correct:p).

    Cheers,
    Lethal.

    If you want modern STI shifters it is very expensive and not worth it IMO, generally- you may also need to change brakes depending on what you have now and maybe front derailleur too. I did it myself with a Specialized Sirrus and was happy with that but I was looking for more of a tourer than a racer.

    Prob better buying a new bike I think- but again depends what you have now and what you want to move to.
