Emceed by RTE personality Mary Kennedy, the event saw a wide variety of charities in the Greater Dublin Area receiving funding including Karate Kids, Bowling Pensioners and a Community Youth Orchestra, in what is now the sixth year of the programme. The various charities and voluntary groups were issued with grants of €5,000, €2,000 or €1,000 - to date over 1,000 charities and thousands of people have benefited from the funding provided by the Dublin Bus Community Support Programme.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Chairman of CIÉ, Dr. John Lynch said, “I am delighted to see so many of you are here today, it definitely goes to show that the spirit of community involvement is alive and well in our Capital. Since its inception six years ago the Dublin Bus Community Support Programme has seen a rise in the number of voluntary and community organisations seeking funding and this year has been no different. I would like to thank and congratulate all the organisations who submitted an application form for consideration. The Dublin Bus CSP, has reached out to almost every community in the Greater Dublin Area and I am delighted that Dublin Bus has such a positive role to play in the heart of so many communities.”

The programmes patron Chairman of Sunderland F.C. Niall Quinn, who was also in attendance said, “In these difficult times, it is crucial that local communities work together to support each other. These grants that Dublin Bus awarded here todaywill make a huge difference to the winning charities and the communities in which they are based. I would like to congratulate all the recipients present here today and would like to remind the charities who did not make it to the final this year, to get your applications in for next year."

Under the terms of the programme entrants submit a proposal with details about their organisations and the project which they wish to have funded. Each application is then judged independently and grants ranging from €5,000, €2,000 or €1,000 are awarded.
