In addition to the start/finish is it easy to get to some other places on the course walking or using public transport at the Dublin marathon based on 4:30 to 5 hours finish time?

Bus services fall apart on marathon day. You best chances are train or bike.

How about Ballsbridge? Could take the dart to landsdowne & walk up? Otherwise, those new Dublin Bikes should help?

YEah its easy enough. My wife is always at the start and then gets the bus out to the half way mark and back in again.

At the she does by at Ginger man pub and then on the finish straight as they are right beside each other

You can catch them pass Trinity college, then jog down dame street , Thomas street and catch them as they come through the 9 mile mark, then follow the rout for a mile or so then down along the canal and meet them again in th latter stages, it's not a bad run either and my plan from last year(that went a bit wrong).

Luas out to Milltown area will allow you to see them at the 15ish mile mark, and then back into town to see the finish area also.

I've still to decide how to get myself and camera around the city that day. Could use the 50cc to get me quickly between points, but that would then mess with meeting in the pub afterwards. How do those bikes they now have in town work/ how much are they to take as I don't fancy running too far if I can help it?

I should have said for my parents so jogging would be out and at most 2/3 miles walking.

You have to register for them online I think? Book em on your credit card and you can have it out all day if you want, if it never gets returned you get charged for it on you card. http://www.dublinbikes.ie/

OP you could catch the runners in town around Trinity College at the start, then head up to St. James' Hospital(the Rialto gate), catch them outside there again and then you'd easily get back into town again to get to the finish line. I'd imagine that Luas line will still be running as it won't really be effected by the marathon once the runners get through O'Connell street.

You could watch them at Mile 1.5 (O'Connell St), get luas to Rialto area (Mile 11) and catch them at South Circular Road. Luas back into City Centre.

    Then 2 alternatives:

    1. 46A bus out to UCD area (that road is open from memory last year) for mile 22, giving c.35-40 minutes to get back into Merrion Sq.
    2. Luas to Milltown (c18 mile area).

Some of the above could get quite tight time-wise, thats the only potential issue.

Be very careful. Dublinbikes are designed from travelling from station to station, not all day bike hire.

    * Hours will cost you about €15.

What is the difference between the subscription charge and the service charge?

When you take out a Long Term Hire Card (€10), or 3 Day Ticket (€2), the first half-hour of every journey is free. After the first half hour, a service charge applies. See below for pricing structure :

    SUBSCRIPTION FEES
    Long term card €10
    3 day ticket €2

A guarantee of €150 is required

    BIKE HIRE FEES
    First ½ Hour : free
    1 hour : €0.50
    2 hours : €1.50
    3 hours : €3.50
    4 hours : €6.50
    Every extra ½ Hour : €2
