Looking for the name of an animated movie

    I'm looking for some help finding out the name of an animated movie. I saw it on the tv around the late 80s/ early 90s.

    The movie takes place in outer space. The film has two stories running in parallel to each other. A boy lost on a planet, with what I think where giant insects. The other story is of an old man on a spaceship that is looking for the boy.

    As the film progresses, the boy and old man seem to develop some sort of empathy to each other despite being nowhere near each other.

    The art style as I remember seems to be a kind of manga style. I can't remember too much of the story but would be great if someone knew what movie this is.

    Sadly not. It was a more sci-fi type movie. And I don't remember the kid having any human companions while on the planet.
