    Hey,
I'm having a little trouble with "sa" (in the)
It seems to cause séimhiús to some words, but not to all words that are capable of having sémhiús

I'd just like to know if there's any specific rule etc.
    Thanks in advance:)

    It lenites the following; b, c, f, g, m, p

It eclipses s when with a fem. noun in the CO

before a vowel and fh it is then san

    sna is the plural form

Cool, thanks, that's explained a lot:).

But what do you mean by "in the CO" when you were talking about the Urú with nouns beginning with s that are fem ...

CO is Caighdeán Oifigiúil (Official Standard)
I've seen sa eclipse in Gaeilge Thír Chonail in mas. nouns e.g. sa tsaol

(sa / san)= in the, and use the same rules as (an)

If you haven't chosen one particular dialect to learn you will come across a lot of variations re. prepositions.

In the caighdeán Sa along with Den and Don nearly always aspirate/lenite (i.e. séimhiú) the following noun so that is simple enough to remember.
Except for words starting with d, s or t -they do not get lenited according to the caighdeán. Except for fem. nouns starting on s+vowel, sl-, sn-, sr-, where 't' is placed before those nouns. e.g. An tSín.

But in the dialects you will see many variations as you can see from other people's posts here. For example in Connacht they use eclipsis for words following sa (as far as I know eclipsis applies to all nouns, even starting with d, s and t in Conamara dialect).

    So for example: At home=
    caighdeán/Ulster Irish: sa bhaile and
    conamara: sa mbaile

In Ulster with nouns starting with s+vowel, sl-, sn-, sr- in Ulster 't' will go in front of these nouns regardless of gender. Whereas Caighdeán Irish this only applies to fem. nouns in these scenarios.
